I have listened to a lot of advice from a lot of people from this forum (wuz_uk springs to mind) and decided to shut my eyes and pass over my credit card for an "autocom!"
It's now sitting on my coffee table!

Both Janet and I have got caberg helmets Which offer their own mobile phone thingy.
after destr sorry dismantling the interior of the lid I have found that it has an indent for speakers already there! perfect!
The only trouble is I think my ears must have dropped with age cos if I fix them there I'm not so sure it's in the right place (bit too high) bearing in mind Autocoms ses.......it is essential that you fully understand the importance of microphone and SPEAKERS positioning!
Any advice is very welcome!!!!!

It maybe that someone else here has got the same helmet and com system and can say YEP go with the indents and enjoy!
Sorry to rattle onbl4hbl4h

Can you take off the lining and just slide it in so its next to your ear, and not bother with the indents? That's what my mate had to do, and I think he used a bit of duct tape too actually!!

One you find the right position you'll be well chuffed with it, so hang with it, honestly, its worth it! Just trial and error really.

Thanks for that I think inside the polystyrene it can be cut to suite I suppose. These things are great after the event and after really good advice.
That's why I joined a forum..........to help me through the ups n downs of owning whatever you own
I am a member of the MG forum with my car and to say they are so fucking clicky would be an understatement
This year I chose a bike out of the blue and with a (hopefully bit of homework) I choose a good solid bike.....a Blackbird
I don't mind anyone taking the piss or having a laff even at my expense but....
I don't want to be amongst people like the Mg forum that only give a shit about the "chosen few"
I don't even know what a midland massive is but I have read the threads there and I don't know what the fuck is going on there!
I thought this forum was for me! And both myself and Janet have at great expense which is money ill afforded to be honest have decided to meet some faces in Holland September. Please tell me this forum is for me or if it is like so many other forums............just say Fuck off!

Yes, it's for you. And me. And Lumpy, if there's room.

It does sometimes seem like there's a closed circle, but it's about the easiest circle out there to get in to - almost all the apparent snobbery is just banter, but it can take a little while to get that. Going along to a meet/bash or 2 will make what I mean much clearer, but it's not compulsory :neenaw:. What you'll find is a bunch of great people with 1 bike in common, like the man who invited a perfect stranger into his house overnight last year for a curry (southern meet thread is still on here somewhere). I've certainly got no regrets about joining, and I'm almost impossible to please c7u8

You are obviously welcome on THIS forum!!
No clicks ( apart from the car club, and the cooking club!)
No one EVER takes the piss out of anyone... well, almost never.
Sometimes 'some' sensible advice, usually followed by a complete thread hijack and change of meaning is noticeable.
But ALWAYS good natured banter and a laugh ( Plus a bit of support if needed).

First time I met up with any of this lot on a ride out, a bloke who I had been having a load of 'adult' banter with handed me a drink before I had time to get off the bike. Now that I like!

Oh, and if you glue the speakers onto the outside of the helmet, it saves cutting the lining. Did it with mine, and have never had any problems since, come to think of it.... never had any comms since
:dunno:

Sorry mate, do you mean to cut some of the polysytrene away that is the protective part? I am no helmet engineer, but that sounds to me like a bad idea.

Hi There it takes all sorts and i agree with a lot of your points, but hang in there will be meeting you for the holland trip and am looking forward to it :-0)

and as for the autocom siting of the speakers is very important, i put mine in the holes that were available in the lining only to find out they were to high up...... it turns out that this cut out in the lining is not intended for speakers at all more to let your ear unfold when you put your helmet on. so i cut a little of the lining away to fit my speakers lower down and i can now hear my passanger/music/satnav up to 140mph

hope this helps a little it sounds like we are going through the same sort of teething probs :-0)

Don't get the wrong idea - fact is that this piss taking goes on despite everyone actually getting on OK.

Lumpy for example is one of the most helpful and friendliest people you could meet as is the infamous Bert and all the others.

Unfortunately it may sometimes look a bit odd here as some of the references can refer to events which have happened a while ago.

For example you may see mention of bert, getting lost and mudflats - all of which probably seem odd.

That's cause those who've been out with Bert (in the riding .. sorry ride-out sense) have seen his prowess at getting lost with the aid of GPS (which we do exagerate for fun!) and found it all quite jolly when he appeared to continue in the same manner when taking to the water at his new retirement home ........

So please don't think it's clicky .. it ain't and once you've met a few you see for real

Now .. as for your serious question about autocom fitting.

I also have one and have fitted a few lids with the gear.

Go by what autocom say about positioning .. they really are right and know what they're saying.

If the cut-outs in your lids don't match the recommended position then ignore the existing cut outs.

Find the right position following autocoms guide and then see what is behind that in the lining/polystyrene.

In one lid I did I found that simply cutting a slit into the comfort foam around the ear padding meant I could slide the earpiece in right out of sight.

On annother it did need some careful minor clearing out of the poly.

The autocom website had some good guides for fitting to various types of lids but I'm not sure if they specifically mention your type?

If all else fails do give autocom a ring and ask they're advice ... they don't mind and are very helpful.

If you happen to be near them one day and pop in with the bits they'll usually fit to the lid for a nominal charge and have been know to do it for free.

I bought one set of lid fittings and a lid for my son at the NEC a few years ago and they happily fitted the stuff for free on their stand... they also did a very neat job of it :yo:

If you're still not sure there's a few of us not all that far (by blackbird :-0) ) who could meet up with you/pop round and offer help ... :dunno:

Don't despair and do try and meet up with some of us as soon as possible ... if nothing else you too will wonder how some can sometimes appear to sound intelligent on here

I had a simular problem just recently when I changed my lid for a different model of the same make. I had to carefully shave out (new stanley kife blade not fitted to the knife) a bit of polystyrene below and slightly backwards from the point where the chin strap leaves its mounting point. The previous lid the speakers fitted in a recess that seemed ok but after several hours riding my ears felt crushed and became very painfull, so dont have the speakers/foam pressed tight to your ears. You need a gap.

As I said its took a while to get it right (about 3 hours this time - one helmet), gaffer tape helps to hold all in place.

As I have said the speakers nest behind chin strap and helmet shell. Once the removable lining was replaced I have a comfortable lid and can hear all comms. I also removed and foam from the speakers (autocom) and gaffer taped them in place.

See you in Holland chap.:-0)

Instead of hacking away the poly with a knife or whatever, try heating a spoon...carefully remembering the handle will get hot.....then use it to make an indent on the polystyerene, or make one bigger, worked on my old helmet, two spoon shaped indents to pop the speakers into. :dunno:
