Assen 04, a look in the mirror

Okay then, it seems to date that all have got home in one piece although knackered.

It all started on Thursday 24th, 9am in Penkridge, Rhino and Ely and us set off for the first pick up on the M5, the one exit lane onto the M5 was closed so went to the next junction and turned round and joined the M5, that was the last we saw of Ely. All the pick up points were done ahead of schedule and at the last one Ely called from Dover and warned us of lorry tailbacks, so off we went, round hundreds of trucks waiting to get on the ferries. Boarded and settled for the 90 minute crossing, the Captain told us it may be a little lumpy mid channel, a force 8 to 9 was blowing. Until that point I thought we were all pretty good sailors, but my old mate Shrops went the same sickly green colour as his Tee-shirt and the sweat rolled out of him, he lay on the seats the whole crossing. Within swimming distance of Calais El Capitian come on the speakers, "there is a boat in our berth, we have around a 20 minute delay. Okay we thought, after 30 mins he came again, we have a technical problem, the engineers are looking into it, so cannot dock. An hour later, we still have a techy problem, lost one of the 3 engines and are trying to repair. 5 fecking hours on that heap of tat. Needless to say, we missed the match, were late for the hotel and restraunt - bastids.

Friday,
sun was out and all was well with the world. Fueled up and away we went. First stop, Jabekke Services, 65 miles in, every one happy away we went. The next stop should have been Kruibeke services where we were to meet Inspector, but, a bloke called NICO 56, (his reg plate) in a ferrari 360 I think was up for a play, with out going into to many details an indicated 180 was seen and he was still pulling away, when he pulled off the E40 he gave us a big grin and thumbs up, and Inspector was 20 miles behind us :xm Meanwhile, back at the service area Inspector asked a group of guys on Kwaks if they had seen a group of 17 Birds, "yes mate, we were doing 100mph and they came past us like we were standing still, they were chasing a black Ferrari", so Dave made his own way to Assen.
We got a little lost around Antwerp :h , thankyou Buzz and his GPS, and got caught in a 10 minute shower and then arrived in Applescha. The evening meal was top dollar, a few beers and bed, but not before Aly showed Bert her assets

Race day, left the hotel at 8am, got to the track and our ticket contact was phoned, bastid was at Glastonbury, so 35 Euro each and in we went. A fantastic days racing was had, we intended to go into Assen town but there were so many bikes there we thought sod it, back to the hotel and more beer. I booked a table for 27 at the kip and steak house but with the arrival of Tony and his girlfriend from Belgium along with Smudger and party it became 33 for tea. Superb food as always, more beer and bed.

Sunday,
Arnold arrived at 9 am to take us to the Dutch BB Bash. A different format to the B.I.R.D. bash and a 3 hour ride out around northern holland. For some reason our guides split up and we were left to find our own way home, Buzz to the rescue again.

Monday, home again, :B got lost at he same place, late for the ferry, that cost some ?10 other nothing, strange that. Investigations are on going.

So that was our weekend. Hope that all the people that made our weekend enjoyed thenselves. Congratulations to all the riders for safe and carefull riding and the convoy riding was superb, everyone where they should be - great

One last thing, due to other commitments for 2005 I am not going to be able to get to Assen, and so, will not be organising an Assen 05 run :xm

Thanks for making it another weekend to remember, your all stars

big thanks

Thanks again for all the hard efforts by John and Shrops.and for making the weekend a very good and enjoyable time for all.
We had some very funny moments ie.Berts face when Ally's assets  were thrust upon him(never knew his jaw could drop so far). Also Rhino's conjuring trick with Bert's helmet, when instead of producing two cute furry rabbits he pulled out two furry and very rancid socks. We hear Bert is having to call in a fumigation team to get rid of the awful stench.
Have to say this though,it was great to see so many red bikes on the trip!!!
Just goes to show that red owners go the distance!!!!!
On a serious note again it was good to meet all you guys n galls that we hadn't met before and hope to meet you all again soon.

 to the dedication and determination of our main players Jon & Anya, Mark & Lorna and also BUZZ & Jill (BUZZ had GPS).....

The trip was a welcome break from my recent situation outside of the circle of BIRDland, it's refreshed me no end and made me realise that i can join in and have a damn good laugh, even at my expence (porno balls).

I will be looking at attending many more of these kind of events in the future and think they're just the tonic if your stuck in a rutt and feeling gloomy.
Emma said to me on Sunday night "I wanna be one of those MASSIVE members, they're all fookin mad especially Jon".
We met a lot of decent people on the trip, too many to name but they know who they are.
As for Jon's comment about NOT organising another Assen trip, shame.
However as soon as the dates are released for 2005 I wil be organising CATALUNYA 2005 and hope someone else will organise ASSEN.

Big  to NICO for taking the bait in his ?120,000 Ferrari GT v/s ?5000 mass produced JAP bike.

I have to say

What a belter.

Just goes to prove what a sociable bunch of blokes (and gals) Bird riders are.

We all meet up at a pre arranged place and gel immediately, and the micky taking began right away making everyone feel at home.

Jon and Anya, Mark and Laura did a stonking job at jacking it all up, well done fellas  (however the ferry was a bit of a bummer %$fan ).

I missed the 120 mph wheelie up the ass end of the Ferrari, bugger :bang: .

There were several ‘first timers’ there who have vowed to come again and I know I for one will be there next year, even if I have to step in for Jon (temporarily mind you  ) and help Mark with the arrangements.

And for those who didn’t make it, you have no idea what you missed.

Cheers all,

Had this mail off Arnold

and I thought I would share it with all the Assen 04 riders and pillions.

Jon and Anya,

I am very pleased that you have enjoyed your visit to the Dutch GP in Assen and the Dutch Blackbird Meeting.

>The rideout was very good, about time I saw some of Holland, usually its only off the motorway.

It was just a small part of Holland :)
For myself I was a bit disappointed and angry at the organisation. Riding and leading the fast group they did not managed to get the whole group together so it split up and people got lost. That is not the way to take care of the (foreign) guests. They should not let that happen!
I am glad that you could find your way back to the hotel, thanks to GPS. A few Dutch Blackbird riders were not so lucky and went home after getting lost.

Some of the Dutch Blackbird owners had their wives with them and they are not so experienced as Anya. They do not ride so very often and for long distances so they were not used to the speed of the fist part of the rideout.
After the lunch I was leading the slower and smaller group. At the end they all said that they have enjoyed the second part of the rideout. That is very important, because it is almost sure they will come again next time. The more experience they get, the faster their husbands can ride with two up on the Blackbird :)

I wish I could, but am not able to take part in the Whippets & Clogs Run - 2004 - Coast to Coast. I am on Holiday at that time.
In August my parents are celebrating their 50-years marriage so I and my youngest brother are taking them on roundtrip to Norway in a car.
Otherwise the Whippets & Clogs Run could have been a reason to visit England for a longer period.

I am looking forward to see you all next time whenever that will be :)

Rhino,
that idea of calling someone from the track just to rub it in is outragious. Its not something I could do to anyone  I don't have a clue where you got the idea from :f

Enjoy your fix mate, and no, your not having my number.
