Artex is good in other ways though.
My early years home was built in 62, it had/has one of, I think, the earliest artex ceilings and as Beaker says a fine bit of craftsmanship.
When we sold last year there was still not a crack in any of the ceilings!

Can't say the same about the early if not the first plasterboard walls!! (They weren't even skimmed!!!)

I remember asbestos mats in the chemistry labs in school, most of them were cracked & falling apart after about 6 years. I also recall doing some painting & decorating for my dad's business & using a wire brush to scrape the paint of asbestos guttering of a bungalow prior to repainting it.

Some of the stuff we got up to in the late 70's early 80's doesn't bare thinking about now.

Thanks for the info TC.
I think my dad is focusing on treatment, at the moment. You can't enjoy compensation in a coffin.
He also doesn't know where or how he was exposed to it. How do you establish it?
You are right about the compensation and coffin, but there is also those left behind (god forbid it comes to that) to think of

That is where the statement of employment history comes in.

A copy of the persons work history is obtained from the DWP and then each job is covered in the interview with a description of what they did, what they worked with and the claimants own thoughts as to where they think they may have been exposed.

Then the search begins which is where people like me used to come in by investigating each business and firm and also looking to see whether there have been other claims against the businesses named.

When you start talking to people, it is quite surprising just how many have the light bulb moment when they suddenly realise where they may have been exposed.

The trouble is that like most of us, thinking back in some cases 50 odd years, blanks occur. I had 1 person who was in his late 70's and after spending a couple of hours talking to him, he then realised that he was exposed as an 18 year old apprentice mechanic working on brake shoes, pads and clutches which were riddled with asbestos which he breathed in when he blew out the brake drums.

It is quite surprising what can be found when you have the persons employment history and their life statement, and of course apart from being a reminder of who they worked for and where, the dates cannot be contested because they are official records that stay with you for life.

If, and I repeat IF you would like some help, I can put you in touch with an asbestos legal claims expert.

Thank you. We'll see how treatment goes before I bring it up with him. (I may let mum know earlier).

The house I lived in for 22 years had asbestos soffits, the pad under the sink and the bath also contained it, gutters and downpipes were asbestos and so was the garage roof
