Just received an automated call from HMRC. Apparently I have an open fraud case in my name and unless I press 1 on my keypad, they'll issue a warrant for my immediate arrest and be sending someone round to see me.

I didn't press 1 so an awaiting a knock on the door (y)

I had a similar one of those about two months ago, I suspect they have a massive backlog as no burly gentlemen has so far visited.

It wasn't too long ago that it would have been me knocking on someones door.

I've had a couple of those calls, I even had one from the CID (Conman In Disguise) telling me there was an on going investigation and they were going to freeze my bank account :cop1:

I too am guilty today...email from 'British Gas' saying I owed them £2.08 and to click on the link to make payment and avoid legal action.

My bad, must have overlooked the £2.08 when I closed my British Gas account in about 1978.

My GF's mum had the same call. Trouble is that she's in her seventies and was taken in by it. Luckily she phoned her daughter to ask her to sort out payment. Even despite being told it was a scam and to ignore it, several weeks later she is still worried that the police may come round.

That's the issue with these type of calls. My mother had the same call in February & admitted that if I didn't work for HMRC & she knew better, she may well have been worried enough to pay.

All I can say is HMRC don't text or make phone calls out of the blue (or shouldn't) so if you get a call, text or email, report it, I did.
