I don't think it is the cars that are the problem, it's the buying public and the things they think are most important to them, never mind what engine etc has it got Wifi connectivity etc
That may be true for some but far from all........
Seems to me they ( car makers ) think the whole population is a bit thick and the ads are dumbed down to that level..
I have found Snowflakes are particularly susceptible to this sort of advertising.. Most esp those that have been to uni and really are total KAKFA's

My Bongo van came with a space saver wheel, got rid of it cos it wasn’t to be driven above 40 mph and then only untill a fix could be done on the damaged wheel, got a proper wheel and it fitted in the space provided so it begs the question why not have a proper one in the first place.
Seems you pay more for more useless extraneous shite and get less everyday useful stuff.

My Mokka came with just a cannister of tyre sealant, however I noticed that the car had a wheel well under the floor. So I promptly ordered a spare wheel.

In hind sight I should have actually measured the diameter of the recess in the boot floor as the wheel is about 20mm too big to fit in...

As an aside, there are signs that it won’t be too long that all the ‘extras’ will be available on one model of each car....at an ongoing cost. Not sure how far VW have got but they have been playing with the Golf; the idea is that while you can specify the ‘hard’ stuff like colour, trim and drivetrain there will be a subscription model for all the technology which will be available ‘hidden’ in every car such as Satnav, cruise, heated seats, media, etc, etc.So if you want satnav you pay a subscription monthly. The selling point is that it will allow the buyer total flexibility but in reality it is the manufacturer creating an ongoing cash flow that they may well sell on to a third party.

And I can see them coming right unstuck the same as microsoft have with Office
I for one will NOT pay a yearly subscription and I know I am def not alone.. Other firms see the chance and bring out something that is either free to use or can be bought outright

I tend to hang on to cars for quite a long time -Mrs B was shocked when I said I was changing the last one after four years - and can see me keeping the current fully loaded non electric/hybrid non subscription one for about ten years when it will be worth a fortune

When we bought our ex demo Vitara I noticed the same thing... a wheel well with just a sealant kit . Slightly bizzarely the sealant kit was a Mazda branded one.
I spent a happy quarter of an hour haggling with the salesman for some extras, including a full sized matching alloy spare wheel. I thought I was doing well getting the price down to £250 including matching tyre.... then he said "sorry, my mistake.... I meant the emergency wheel".

I did get a bit of a hissy on at that, but as he quickly pointed out... a full wheel wouldn't have fitted in that wheel well anyway.
