Sailing.?

We have a winner.

The Magazine is Yachting Monthly :)

When I was very involved I mostly used to read another one who's nickname was

Yobs & Yobbing

It gave all the racing news and published results.

I think we may have at least one member who'll know what it's real name was

Started mid 80's, stopped serious racing around 2012.

Still do a bit when asked but really I'm past it for fitness. When I was doing well I was working shifts, did three gym sessions per week, one on the water training evening, one on the water training day and raced mostly on Sundays

The Yobs & Yobbing name was from the more genteel gentleman sailors.

Racers sometimes got frowned upon by the cruising folks. We tended to be much happier with very close quarters sailing and manoeuvres.
Naturally this made them nervous of their pride and joy.

However, I'm much happier now with more relaxed sailing when I get the chance.

I'm not really up to date anymore with the racing rules.

I believe the old overlap, mast a beam followed by a strong luffing is frowned on!

Name doesn't ring a bell I'm afraid.

Did a bit of match racing on westerly fulmar (one of my fav boats, I did a lot of my early learning on them), beneteau f35s and some cruiser/racing on bavarias.

Regular racing in this neck of the woods was laser dinghy, club & northern open circuit. Also represented club at Southport 24hr. Bit of sailing from Port Dinorwic and the usual North Wales haunts.

Did a number of regattas. I started quite late in life so the younger sprogs were often quicker in the dingy when it blew f5 and above.

I wasn't anything special, could win the odd open meeting on a good day (less than f5 :))

I did once race against Ben Ainslie at Weymouth ithink it was, large laser fleet. Saw him at the start but not again until I pulled the boat out of the water.

I'm happier on the bigger stuff now.

I can sit back with a beer and yellat the racers!!
