Ive recently switched to AOL broadband (6 weeks) and seem to have had nothing but problems when trying to connect to the server. When I turn on the computer it should, I assume automatically make a connection via the dsl box. The problem is that more often than not it doesnt. The two arrows in the box stay on red instead of turning green and I end up having to remove the blue cable from the dsl box and re-insert it, then it starts working. I've checked the sign in procedure and that all seems correct. Is this just AOL or should I uninstal the programme and re-instal it again?

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Thank you Ian for your usual prompt response. :f

I was however looking for a solution that would allow me to keep AOL and make it work for me.

However your advice is noted and will be referred to at an appropriate time. :}

I would be inclined to try uninstall and re-install. If you still have problems, give AOL a call on 0800 376 4406 as their help line is quite good, unless you've bought a speedtouch networking box from them as they don't sell that many, so aren't very upon it:bang: , but for standard broadband problems, they're good.

Have fun!!!!

Been with AOL for about 7 years or so now.. Yes, there has been the occasional 'moment', and in all honesty since 50% of the help desk has been moved to India it is completely useless, but if I do not get a Scottish voice I either put the fone down or ask to speak to someone not off shore !

It sounds to me as if you have an external issue rather than ab internal one though... The firmware in the box is not connecting.. Have you downloaded the updated drivers for your modem ? ( but this depends on the modem you have .. I have an older 100 and they have brought out a couple of new drivers for that )

Thanks for your replies. Jaws, the box is a BT Voyager 105 so I assume is the latest modem.

I did phone the helpline and we went through it all and it worked ok for the first few connections then started playing up again. Perhaps I will do the uninstal/ instal first, see if that helps.

Are you running XP per chance , and if so have you fallen foul of the dread service pack 2 mess ?

If you have done the sp2 thing I would suggest you do it again as they have apparently now addressed the very serious problems it originally caused ( which were I believe, all network related, though I stand to be corrected on that )

If you've got two red arrows it may be worth giving BT a call and asking them to check your line. Also, it is well worth keeping a dial-up modem installed as BT/AOL will want to contact you by email and will expect a reply by email as to wether or not the possible line fault has been successfully repaired.

I was informed recently by AOL that the helpline is now a pay one. :xm

OMG...... Don't get me started on AOHELL.

Whatever you do Aidey, DO NOT contact their helpline number....... unless you want to turn a problem into a nightmare. Be warned, they WILL fuck your computer, and then hang you out to dry.
