'Wet-Type? Battery
The Double-X?s maintenance-free (MF) battery has also been changed to a ?wet-type? that not only provides strong, reliable output, but also holds its charge longer than the ?dry-type? battery that it replaces. "

Does this mean that the new ones have to check the acid levels like what we did in the olden days?

My 99 Bird came with a wet battery, just been replaced with another. No problems at all, don?t forget they are sealed for life type so no top ups required.

Remember to trickle charge any new battery before fitting. Not doing this is the biggest cause of early battery failure. When you put the acid in there is usually enough charge to start the bike. However it will put a very heavy charge through the battery and can make the plate warp. This is why so many people have to replace the battery after about 2 years on new bikes. Most dealers are just too lazy to bother.
