Am I going to get home ?

Clueless in most things
Twice now on long run out's and on motorways I'm running fine and steady then all of a sudden and with no apparent reason, it starts to feels like it's stuttering and about to run out of fuel.

I know I have plenty in, there is no missfiring or kangarooing but more like a hesitancy you get when your fuel runs out.

When it happens it's between 3500-4000 revs and today was happening between 80-100mph whilst in top gear where the revs are at 5,000 when your closer to the ton

I did drop it a gear then tried to push through but again it had the stuttering.

My own feeling is carbs need a clean and set up as I can not find a receipt for this ever having been done.

I've tried to usual redex, a few times but it still happens ?

At the stated revs it sounds like classic coil failure..
Never have got to the reason why they do it, but it is almost always first felt at 3.5 to 4k revs..

The first and easiest thing to check is the vacuum hose between your cock :-0) and inlet manifold. Any air leak in this will cause fuel flow problems.

In fact just replace it - any bit of tubing will do providing it is a snug fit on your nipples :-0). Scottoiler tubing fits a treat.

The original bit is softish rubber and is entitled to be leaking now having been in a very hot and hostile environment on a bike that is pretty ancient.

Mine went on my carb Bird, due warning was given by occasional stuttering at the most inconvenient times.

Not saying above is your problem - hopefully it is but if not look at it as being good preventative maintenance.

Keep posting.

I would have suggested the pet cock diaphragm but it seems to be when the bike is good and hot Andy

Thanks for the comments gents

It's only happened twice so far and both were motorway trips of over 70 miles, never on smaller runs but at the same speeds say of 10 or 20 mile journeys.

I just checked out coil packs and Lings list them as ?277.54 for the pair

Hopefully someone on here will step up and do a temporary swap........ Time for someone to be a hero.........p0pc0rn41

Swap out the vacuum pipe first though, it will cost pennies and take but a few moments........:whi5tl:

I think I'll start cheapest first.

Do the tube swap and probably the pet cock set then see how it goes. Gives me something to do as well.

Again thanks for the help all

Just in case, are the coil packs the same ones for all models?

Don't forget the tank vent.....................when it's gulping fuel on the motorway is the time for this to show up!
