A Month in France

Just got back from a 30 day 3,500 mile tour of France, just me and a tent. Wow! Went down the Route Napoleon to Cannes, taking in the Verdun Gorges on the way (amazing). Drifted along the Cote D'Azur before heading up to Millau and the bridge via the Tarn gorges (maybe even more amazing). Watched the Bastille day fireworks in Carcassonne (fantastic) then up to Lourdes behind the Tour de France. Finally up through the Dordoigne and into Nomandy before the dash for the tunnel.

Found some great campsites and met some bril people.Tunnel was easy, finding campsites a doddle and it never rained - well only 1 day and 1 night. rideouts will never be quite the same again.

Well, only 6 months or so later I've finally got some photos sorted. They're currently on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/photos.php?id=703964262

Not been able upload photos here - not enough posts, although this one might qualify me. Facebook is as good a place as any and I don't know how to upload photos on here anyway. Enjoy!

I can't wait to get back when Mr Brown et all have finished screwing things up, making investments and the £ worthless. B'stards!!! Sorry, didn't intend this to be a rant. Try again - be good to see your photos though

Oradour-Sur-Glane

is it as spooky as all the stuff I've read. I must get there one day.

Oradour-Sur-Glane is such a sad place. It was left in ruins as a memorial to all the villagers who were executed by the SS. You can still see the bullet holes in the walls of the houses and the church ...... It had me in tears. You should definately go, but it's not a "nice day out".

thanks Rolfy and Steve for the comments on the photos. The weather was amazing, no rain at all in 5 weeks, except for 2 days when I was staying in a Gite for a week with the family near Carcassone. They flew in for a week to see me.

I was getting through 2-3 litres of water a day just riding. It's easy to get dehydrated in 30 degree heat with full gear on. The locals were in jeans and t-shirts, but I just couldn't do it - didn't feel safe.

France is an amazing country. There are some great roads everywhere, even on the south coast. Just get away from the sea front and into the hills behind. D75 & D6007 between Canes and St Tropez were a nice surprise (at least I think they're the road numbers - it's a while back now.
