99 Carb Red One....

Left a deposit on this today - collecting it next week. It's not my first 'bird, but it is the first red one....

Reg'd April 99 - one of the last carbed ones. 50k miles, full service history, some previous owners, red (obviously the quickest ones), braided brake lines, touring scott oiler, top box, datatool immobiliser.

Other than that it's totally stock...

Looking forward to getting out on it for a blast...

Ooooo I know that wall, is it Gildo's in Wisbech?

That picture looks like the light is on and possibly hid also?

Nope, it's at JB Bikes - only a few miles from my house. So while it wasn't the cheapest on the market, it's close to home, comes with a full service, new MOT and warranty, so... yeah.

I have a HID on my parts shelf somewhere that will fit it anyway :) I'll swap that out when I get it home... I might also stick some clear indicator lenses on it as well. Other than that probably just leave it as it is...

Wasn't he the restoration two stroke specialist who used to work in a workshop in the back of his house on Lynn road/walpole highway area? He had a really good reputation. Didn't know he was now in Wisbech as a proper shop

To be honest I am not sure.

He had a lot of bikes there, both for sale and customer ones. So is clearly a busy guy. He is near Buildbase on Elm Road now.

He's giving it a service and MOT this week and then I should be able to pick it up next Friday. Probably drag it home on my trailer then give it a run over the weekend... It's got 3/4 tank of fuel, which obviously needs to be used.....

A few from here live your way and sometimes do the wells to hunstanton and beyond.

My normal ride out is to Hunstanton for some coffee, round to Wells and Blakeney for lunch, then a blast back home. Though I expect I'd struggle to keep up with most people...

We bought a couple of naff Chinese mopeds from JB for the girls a few years back. They really had some wrecks in the shop!

It looks like they have a few parts bikes and projects stored there. Most of the bigger stuff looked good though. Didn't pay any attention to the small bikes.

I went to an independent garage for my strada service and the amount of stuff they have in there as parts/part bikes that you can see they can see where the future money is. Also a few bikes where customers (normally scooter owners) didn't pay their bills so the bike stayed there.

42psi in both front and rear tyres and everything else you can learn as you ride. Emjoy

Got it.... 100yds down the road and it started raining. Still went for a 30 mile blast on it anyway.

They serviced and MOT'd today. They also decided the front tyre was getting a bit past it so replaced it with a brand new Metzler free of charge.

Can't argue with the service.

Usual upgrades tend to be fender extender to keep the crap off the rad/front pipes. Hid on dipped 55w H7 6000k. You've already got the db and mono rack.

My eyesights crap so can anyone else chime in, are they vfr bars with fork preload caps?

and yes, you are wimmin How did you find the first ride?

It does have preload caps - possibly Jaws ones. Not sure.

I have a carbon fender extender to fit tomorrow morning. And I also happened to have a H7 HID on my shelf... another small challenge....

First ride was great, new tyres and wet roads aren't the best combo though! I haven't ridden in almost exactly 12 months, so it was actually quite nice to go for a 30 mile ride even if it was raining.

It's been a while since I fitted a bird hid but If I remember, the carbie bird has no air tubes between the grills in the nose and the airbox so has space on the bottom of the inside of the nose fairing under the headlight where there is a little shelf. I used wide velcro attached to the ballast and the fairing then pushed together.

Personally I found it easier to take the nose off as it also gave me a chance to acf 50 all the gubbins that gets neglected over the years

That looks really nice condition for the miles. Looks like you have a nice bike there.@tu*

It's good and honest. A few little marks here and there, but it's been very well looked after.

Today I fitted the HID, and yes I did refit the baffle in the air duct when I had finished....

I also put the carbon fender extender on and fitted the GoPro mount

If you do any long runs the only change I would recommend is a decent aftermarket seat - it's only when you try one that you realise the stock unit is a bit of a plank. Makes a world of difference.

I had a couple of Corbins which were excellent but others swear by various of the multitude of choices available.
