2500 miles on an ElectraGlide

I'll chuck some of my piccies from our recent roadtrip on this thread.............

1) The sea frozen from 40,000 feet - they're some big 'ol icebergs down there!

2) the Navigator aboard the 2 wheeled bus

3) A typical road - my record was 16 miles no handed! I wish I was on the 12 or a Bird for some of these - perfect for max speed runs

4) This was having just ridden through Death Valley National Park - temp was well into the forty degrees and at one point we were 46 feet below sea level........the US military must use the Valley as a training ground, fighter jets kept coming in and making incredible turns ahead of us, they really shift and the racket rolling round the valley walls was incredible

5) Tasty bits of kit these Arlen Ness specials, had a go up the road and back, courtest of a couple of Danes I met, I could handle one of these

Don't wanna bore you all - I've got hundreds - I'll try to pick interesting ones...........

1) Just for you Steve! These guys ordered their Arlen Ness specials on the website, whatever spec they wanted and then flew out to ride them back to Norway - we met them in Death Valley

2) 'Get your motor runnin' - this was Day1 - I didn't ever wear a jacket again it was just too hot

3) Yosemite National Park - staggering. Everything is enormous. The photo doesn't give any idea of the scale of things, we were blown away by this place - it's not easy to ride through such scenery, especially as some of the roads there were among the twistiest we found

4) Bloody big trees they have over there. Check Amanda compared to this baby!

5) Thanks to my choice of piss-pot lid, Amanda never needed to look behind her and could do her make up 'til her heart was content

1) Excuse quality of this one, this is the Hoover Dam taken from the air on route to the Grand Canyon. This is the most incredible piece of engineering I've ever seen. A true engineering wonder of the world. More pics from inside the Dam later.......

2) The Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco Bay, beautiful - felt great riding across this with the stereo pumping

3) More American Massiveness.........the Grand Canyon - breathtaking, scarily big and scarily deep - 21miles across!

4) This was a road leading up from Lake Tahoe - snow capped mountains on one side.................

5) ................and sheer beauty on the other side..............if I were still a smoker I would have stopped and had a good few smokes staring out over this

1) Alcatraz - fascinating place - they have a brilliant tour with the old infrared headphones, really spooky to roam around in there

2) This is Al Capone's cell. Whilst there I spent 5 minutes shut inside one of the solitary confinement cells in pitch blackness - I'd have gone crazy in the head after a day, inmates used to spend weeks in there.

3) Elvis is alive and well.............

4) The Hoover Dam - simply the greatest feat of engineering in the modern world........can you believe it was completed in just over 3 years back in the 30's! 727ft high, 1244ft long, 660ft thick at it's base, it weighs FIVE AND A HALF MILLION TONS - and contains THREE AND A QUARTER MILLION YARDS of concrete............sheeeeeeesh

5) The turbines/generators. There's 8 of these on the Nevada side and 9 on the Arizona side. We travelled 500ft down in a lift and then walked through the canyon rock to get to the hall that houses these beauties. The water hits the blades at 85mph and exits at 5mph.............

OK - I'll make these the last................

1) Las Vegas. I'm in two minds as to how I feel about the place. The hoover dam impressed me more, and Vegas wouldn't be there if it weren't for the dam.

2) Aerial view of the two turbine halls on the 'downstream' side of the Dam

3) Grand Canyon again - trying to give you a sense of the scale of the place

4) GEEEEEEEEEZA! This is Old Faithful Geyser in the Napa wine making region of California. Every 29 minutes she blows, any deviation in this timeframe would suggest that a big earthquake was iminent - she predicted the big one in San Francisco in '89

5) Mrs Samster getting to grips with the HD - she so very nearly talked me into letting her have a go!

1) The Glide again...................sob, I miss her already

2) Yosemite - one of many great waterfalls. Check the trees, these are biggies, making the waterfall gigantic - noise was deafening..........

3) Another beautiful lake we rode past

4) The hills of San Francisco - these cable cars are really cool, they've been there since 1900 and it took a Brit to invent the coupling to safely haul these things up daft gradients at a steady 9.5mph........clever system

5) Dunno why they call it Las Vegas..............there's nothing Vague about the Arses I saw over there............BWAHAHAAHAAAHAAAAHAAAAAHAAAAAAA, big biffas all over the place...........

Great pictures, made me very jealous sitting here looking at them, glad the trip was fantastic for you both.

Really must get off my arse, and do something like that before age catches up with me/us.

many congrats to you both Sam & missus Sam...

Just loved the pics.... Made us feel very envious of you both...

Wondered if those were a couple of Orange County choopers you piccied ??

Least you had good weather over there...and they spoke English (sort of :h ).

I have walked round town this afternoon with Jan and just wondered how the hell I undestand all the advertising in the shop windows now...(Spooky or wot ??)

All pop music seems to be stuck in the 70's in Germany (roll on 70's rock...Yee Haa )

Once again Hope you have a wonderful happy life together.

Loads of love to you both,

Rolfy & Jan
