I'm looking for a new phone so I called 02 who I have been with for years, the person I spoke to told me I was in contract until June, according to their app I'm out of contract, I was also told that my cost would increase for RPI 13.4% ( I thought it was 10.1%) plus 3.9% a big con.

I was told that someone from the sales department would phone me.

Later I decided to phone again and check my contract status and was told I was out of contract and then put me through to a sales person who found a phone and tariff I was interested in, so I asked if the cost would go up in April and was told yes as it always goes up in April, so I asked if I left it what the cost would be and was told it would be the same it is now, I said goodbye I will look elsewhere

When I left O2 they offered me 12 months at half price, I told them I wasn’t interested if it was 12 Months free

I have three phones on pay as you go with Sky at £6pm free calls to landlines/other Sky numbers plus (I think) 3Gb a month data which is tons unless you download films etc. unused data goes in a ‘bank’, I have over 200gb to call on if needed!

If you already have a handset that might be a good option…if you don’t there are loads of used ‘not latest’ handsets around that are a fraction if the cost of the latest stuff.

We've had sim only contracts with GiffGaff for the last few years. 15Gb data, unlimited calls and texts for £10 a month, cancel anytime. We get another 5Gb of data by having it auto-renew each month, but still have the cancel anytime option.

Can't fault them.

Minkey, as the above have alluded to, if you are happy with your current handset/smartphone then a sim only deal is the way to go, if O2 coverage is good for you then try one of the cheaper companies that use the O2 network, Giffgaff, Tesco, Sky or Lyca.

There are some great deals around, if you don't mind the Chinese government checking on your every move  then I can recommend the Redmi note 11.

Called into Tesco and had in mind what phone I wanted, they totally confused me talking about pac codes etc, ( 20 years since I changed network provider) anyway they recommended a phone which had 5g and 128gb memory but It turned out it was our of stock in shop and the warehouse, so opted for a lesser spec 4g 64gb phone (still better storage than my current phone) on a 2 year contract, I don't need a top of the range iPhone
at the moment there's no 5g around here so it will do me for the time being.

Once I had text 02 for a pac code they rang me up wanting to know why I was leaving them and what and who I had signed up for, I said I wasn't telling them and the reason poor customer service

Update as of this morning I can't send text messages, one minute I could then I couldn't. I phoned Tesco up the woman told me to remove and clean the sim card, so I went to get the pin to do just that I explained to her what I was doing and she kept saying are you there,so I picked up my phone and said yes I'm just doing what you asked me to do but I need both hands to do it so can't talk to you and she hung up.

so I rang again spoke to another person told them what had happened and she apologised, I told her what the problem was and she said she could see on her system that there was a problem caused by the transfer from 02 and would need a manager to sort it and it could take up to 5 working days grrrrr
