I think it's some kind of mating call as they're always bloody pregnant.
We will have to differ on what the point is.
it is not a matter of ‘seeing the good in everything’ - I try as best as I can to see a wider context and that inevitably raises the question ‘why are these people doing this?’ Civil war, poverty to a degree that is beyond anything in this country, lack of ability and opportunity to support families,etc. Yes of course there are some who are only interested in crime, same as in any society, but the majority are desperate. Why else would you risk your life and step into the unknown in the event you make it.
As pointed out above the real problem here is the people traffickers. Take a look at ‘Taken: Hunting the Sex Traffickers’ currently running on Channel 4. I would wager that the majority crossing The English Channel end up in modern day slavery, women being forced into prostitution serving maybe twenty clients a day, men being forced to look after cannabis farms, etc.

i totslly agree with you about ‘selfishness’; the behaviour of a large minority in the pandemic has highlighted that. As does the multi generational families who have no intention of doing anything constructive with their lives, preferring to live on benefits and supplement that with crime.
Andrew, seriously, open your eyes. Most of us want to do the 'right thing'. I have no problem with people coming here with honest intentions, prepared to get some shit under their fingernails, pay their taxes, fit in and play nicely with the locals. Everyone else can fuck off.
Do I mean it? Absolutely, I don’t know them yet they are here to steal m pension. Anybody who is a drain on our economy & threatens the pension I have earned for nearly fifty years can drown with my blessing.

You're focusing it seems on the "victim industry".
If I accept your view that all those thousands in the camps of France are not there by choice but are victims of gangs.
Why are the gangs bringing them to the UK in preference to anywhere else.
Why didn't they exploit them in any of the countries they travelled through to get here?
Why is the UK sex/drug/car washing/big issue selling/shop lifting etc etc so much more lucrative/attractive than Spain, Greece, Italy, Germany, France etc, etc?
If you focus on the reasons and work on removing them you then destroy the ability of the gangs to do business.
In my time I've directly dealt with these people arriving into the UK by air - the upmarket segment!!
The ones I dealt with knew exactly what they were doing.
They had the correct paperwork (passports/visas) to be able to transit through other countries and to enter the UK for non work purposes. They wanted to move here to work.
If they were in danger they could have said so at any point prior to arrival into the UK, why didn't they.
To be refused entry into the UK border control must legally know who you are. If they don't they must first establish that before refusing entry.
Knowing that these folks destroy their documents on the last leg to the UK and then pretend they don't speak/understand English.
That gets them in temporarily while they are investigated.
The carrier bringing them in without the correct documents gets fined £2,000 per head plus can also be hit for detention and repatriation costs. Those costs are not to return them to France if it's found they are from China - it's the costs all the way back home!!!
At the time I was dealing with it I was being told they had spoken perfect English until they arrived into the UK.
We solved it (and were accused of being racist) by making photocopies of their passports/documents at check in. These were all put into a large envelope and travelled on the aircraft with the crew.
At this end I was first in the door and took the envelope which I handed to border control.
This firstly proved that they did have the correct documents and so the company couldn't be fined/hit for other costs.
Secondly border force could identify them immediately and refuse entry.
If they were genuine asylum seekers they could have entered on the documents they held and then claimed asylum.
Problem is those same documents proved that they were not at any risk in the country of origin.
The fact they'd destroyed them to lie about country of origin and to attempt an asylum claim was more than enough evidence to immediately refuse them entry.
