VPN is Virtual Private Network. In simple terms it's a way of keeping your internet traffic more secure........at a price of course.

Not really necessary for the average user & if you're worried about your internet traffic, i believe the Opera browser has VPN built in.

I have VPN built in to my security software but it's limited to 500mb per day & I only tend to use it when banking on-line.

Still kickin' it!
I'm not a fan of theirs, so I'll just say: "I guess that's a reflection of its worth, Minkey!"

The latest version of Norton includes it for free but you don't need to use it, Minks.

VPN's are used to create a secure "tunnel" connection directly between you and something else. e.g. the office, hence they're mainly used if you were working from home and dialling in.
If that were the case then your company would supply you with that for their own security, they wouldn't (or shouldn't) ask you to supply your own.

I use NordVPN, have done for years. I used it when I lived in Singapore so that I could watch the US and UK Netflix instead of the local crap, which was censored to ribbons.

I probably don't 'need' it now but I've maintained my subscription because it's come in handy when I'm travelling and I always use it when online banking away from my home network.

If anyone is tempted by NordVPN, do a search for best VPN providers (they're usually in the top three) and click on the reviews from Tech Radar and there should be a special offer. I had two years for US$80 when the same service through iTunes was £70 for one year. As a loyal customer, they sent me an offer of three years for US$100 last year so I took that up and have it now until January 2023.

They're probably one of the best VPNs for streaming as they seem to be one of the few VPN's able to bypass Netflix's region detection routines.
One other "nice" thing about NordVPN....they're based in Panama, so no CIA/NSA data sharing agreements. Handy if you're an international jetsetting "double O" type trying to stay anonymous. ;)

Good point, will check on their website, I had a scam text today, which was meant to have come from 02
Minks, I've had Norton for years and I've never seen emails like that from them.

The only time they'll mention the VPN is if you've already got it (comes as standard with Norton360) but even then they won't email you about it, instead you just get a nag alert on your PC reminding you you've got it, they do the same with the Norton Backup option. Usually that only runs the once after you've either installed Norton for the first time, or renewed the licence.

If you've just got the bog standard Norton Internet Security then it doesn't come with a VPN. You may get the odd marketing message from Norton offering you an upgrade to Norton360 to get the VPN option, but usually you don't see those until you're into your last month of the current licence.

Added benefits :D.

They were regarded as second best behind ExpressVPN last time I looked. I chose Nord because they have way more servers in more destinations and, um, the points you mentioned.

I remember one time on here many years ago when I mentioned that I was on here using a VPN, a certain Mr Beaker claimed that my VPN was rubbish because he was able to locate my IP address without any difficulty. One of the boys chimed in and politely informed him that my IP address was a car dealer in North America :p

When streaming Netflix through the VPN, it’s sometimes necessary to try alternative servers because Netflix have managed to block a few them. To my simple mind, I think rod have allowed Netflix to block a couple as a token gesture; they don’t give two hoots as long as they get their monthly subscription.

I also use OneClick because, for some bizarre reason, I get much better play on my iPod when I use an American VPN to listen to AceRadio. Same music if I listen ‘from the UK’ but the American adverts are less irritating and they don’t cut the beginnings and ends off the music.
