Glad you're recovering & got back without incident. I wish you a speedy recovery so you can finish your trip.

One of my Auntie's a nurse with the NHS & she has private health insurance. Says a lot about the state of the NHS. I can't really complain as while I've needed emergency care a couple of times, I really have nothing to compare it to (except Milton Keynes Hospital where one of the junior surgeons grabbed hold of my arm & whirled it round like a windmill to check if my shoulder was broken) as I've luckily never needed treatment abroad.

I have to say that I have only seriously had to use the NHS twice in my life. First time was after the bike crash that left me disabled, and the 2nd time after my heart problems and I have to say, I was impressed on both occasions.

That said, what did annoy me on my last admittance was when the Cardio unit got my medical notes.

One of the senior staff wanted to know what medication I was on, and what previous treatment I had received going back 50+ years.

I said I was on nothing and I had only had treatment for injuries sustained through work. I was one of those who has been fortunate never to be ill until the old strawberry tart decided to give up on me.

The staff member did not believe me and told me that everyone has illness and treatment at some stage. He found it hard to believe that I had only been treated for injuries during my life.

Eventually they believed me and did apologise (not that I was in any position to argue as I was so weak), but as I got stonger (several weeks later) I made my displeasure known that they did not believe me when I said I was not someone who got ill.

When I was speaking to the chief heart poo bah, he said there are some real empire builders in admin who do not have a clue and I should just ignore them. So I did.....;)

But that apart, brilliant care, although I did learn that my Hospital is considered one of the best 3 in the UK. Leeds and London having the other 2, which is quite comforting.

My dear old mother was an SRN for over 40 years (she was still nursing when she died) and she admitted on more than one occasion to me that the state of nursing in this country and the way it was going worried her and that was 20 + years ago.

I think she was proved absolutely right

She died in service, still a serving Nurse aged 62.

I have something wrong with my guts since an episode before last xmas when I was rushed into hospital, I haven't been able to eat properly or eat certain foods at all since then, I have been for all the usual blood tests + an ultra sound + a bloody great camera down my throat & an MRI, last week I found out the "specialist" had discharged me without informing either me or my doctor or forwarding any of the any test results as she "can find nothing wrong"

So why the fuck am I doubled up in pain 30% of the time & in serious discomfort the other 70% of the time wasn't a question she seemed willing to answer when I finally got hold of her

100% not impressed at all with the NHS at the moment :(

Glad to hear you are on the mend John, it does appear that our NHS is not in safe hands. I too have had recent interactions that have given me a lot of hassle...so I had a go at returning the favour yesterday...ooops!

That bullshit wouldn’t fill me with confidence at all. I’d be going back to my doctor and demanding referral to another specialist for a second opinion. Given the last muppet didn’t forward any results to your doctor, he/she should be equally unimpressed and quite willing to oblige.
If that doesn’t work, next time you’re having a 30% episode then go to A&E and make out it’s worse than it is and hopefully they’ll get you seen by someone else once they know your history.
Some may take a dim view my suggestion of ‘...make out it’s worse than it is.....’. I don’t agree with wasting anyone’s time, especially medical professionals but this sounds to me like one of those rare justified occasions. Even better, go for a ride to Belgium and do what John did :D

BTW, did your useless specialist at least have big tits?

Sometimes it is all down to which Dr you see about what problem. 3 years ago I went to see my Dr ref different symptoms I had along with having anxiety, he gave me a leaflet to phone an organisation and have a chat, the leaflet was shoved in a draw. Earlier this year I went and saw another Dr same result. Then a couple of months ago the BBC did a piece about the menopause and the symptoms including anxiety. So I made an appointment with another Dr who listened to what I said tested me for depression and also sent me for blood tests. The upshot is I have low hormone levels and low thyroid levels, so now just been put on Thyroid tablets, so watch this space.

When I was rushed into hospital I spent 15 hours on a trolley in a hall then 12 or so in a ward, no food or drink & no pain relief until I gave up & walked out, I am not enthusiastic about repeating that experience to be honest :( if it happens again I will be making sure I don't go to the main default hospital for the area but will insist on the smaller local one

As for tits, yes absolutely giynockerpod things only matched in scale by her arse :D

Fuck the pain, I’d go back to the same hospital and to the exact same ward (y)

And tonight is the first night I can go to bed without a big body belt on

Must admit , it feels really strange without it. Apart from showering I have had it on for three weeks and to be honest I am now a bit paranoid about not wearing it.

A bit like the woman in Doc Martin with the neck brace

What fecks me off about the NHS is you'll wait weeks or months to see a specialist, but if you're on BUPA, etc. you'll see the very same specialist in a matter of days.

BTW.... Glad to hear you're on the mend, John. Are you working your way through Blacks medical dictionary or summat....? ;)
