Back in the day A pal had a RS2000 in factory chocolate brown metallic with a chocolate brown Recaro interior.

Possibly the only car that has ever looked good in that colour as standard.
I have owned a black X-Pack RS2000 and an ex rally car mk2 RS1800! But it was fitted with the pinto engine! Also I built an RS1800 from a mk2 popular, but only had 1600 crossflow engine! Turned a few heads though!(y)

I was looking at some old car magazines from the early seventies recently - Ford were advertising brand new BDA Escort shells for £495 delivered.

How much would they both be worth now? £15k£ £20k?

And which exact part of Australia is that made in?

Oh, by the way - it's dreadful. Carroll Shelby will be turning in his grave.
Have you lost yer marbles or something...?

Where did I say that it was from Oz...? that was the previous post about the VXR8. :smash2:

Yes, but today the journey around the automotive world is visiting Australia.

Do try and keep up.

Today we visit Northern Ireland and take a look at De Lorean, one of possibly three cars ever built that look better with the doors open. And possibly eyes shut.

John De Lorean set the bar low with one single product that was, well, appalling is an appropriate word. Poor design, high price tag coupled with catastrophic build quality and less than inspiring performance; 0-60 in well over ten seconds.

So how did it become cool? Simple; Back to the Future. Did as much for this brand as James Bond did for Aston Martin.

Production eventually came to an end when the founder was mixed up in wholesale drug dealing. All at the expense of the British taxpayer, as well as massive damage to the local economy.

This is a tantalising shot of a prototype built by the current owners of De Lorean, if they build this it could be very exciting...

And a customised version if the original showing what it could have been first time round.....

It's hard to believe that the the man responsible for designing the two beauties below was also responsible for the De Lorean....

Can't imagine how they felt when it all went wrong - I would guess massive damage was done to the pride of the local populace.
Actually not entirely.
Jobs for certain parts of the N. I. Community were in very short supply at the time. That's one of the reasons the UK govt. stumped up support.
While it didn't last some people were able to at least make a decent wage for a while.
My relatives have been very happily retired to the South now for many years.

Couple of years ago when visiting them they gave my petrol head son a pristine DeLorean brochure plus some other bits & bobs.

There was a good programme on it last year. Still not really sure what he was up to.
Government here nearly went for it.
They got a bit of grief at the time for not.
