might be a sticky depending how it goes....

- War of the Worlds on Fox.....21st century update on the classic story...first two episodes have been excellent

- Life on Mars on BBC.......brilliant comedy drama..2006 detective gets transported back to 1973 to meet The Gene Genie, best tv plod ever, payed by Philip Glenister. Try and work out the connections......I'll help you out, the testcard girl represents Death, Annie the WPC is the present day nurse. Magnificent, as is the follow up - Ashes to Ashes....

- WW2: Hell Under the Sea in History - fabulous docudrama about WW2 submariners from all sides

- The Stand Up Sketch Show on itv.......rib achingly funny, novel format programme. Watch the 'bouncer'sketch in series 2 episode 2 and 'bread' in episode 3. Brilliant. The punchlines are often weak but the bits in between are fantastic.

- Food That Built the World on History - fascinating drama documentary about how the likes of McDonalds, Kellogg, Mars, Herschey and others were founded and became what they are today.....a fascinating insight into social culture and how America were the only winners from the two World Wars

Where's the submarine one on please?
National Geographic....can't see it is on 'catch up' at the moment but I am sure it will be. Both Series have been excellent.

Regardless of what side they were on, total respect to those that fought the war under the waves.

If you have Netflix, give the series ’Hannibal’ a go. Very good and quite dark. The cast is quite strong too; Laurence Fishburne, Mads Mikkelsen and Caroline Dhavernas with frequent appearances by Gillian Anderson.

Warbird Workshop on Yesterday is very interesting if you like aircraft - first two episodes have been about rebuilding a spitfire and a DC3.

Also Defenders of the Sky on Forces TV. Interesting historical stuff on uk airfields, the one that was on yesterday gave a really interesting insight into the Zeppelin raids in WW1 and the British response. Which was quite inflammatory....

Another shout up for Defenders In the Sky - just watched another couple of these - for anyone with interest in aviation history it really is worth a watch - disappointed to have missed the first three episodes. The episode on Coningsby covered Barnes Wallis, 617 Squadron, V bombers, Battle of Britain Squadron and Eurofighter.

The episode on seaplane base Calshot in The Solent covered Schneider Trophy, Sunderland, Catolina and other related stuff.

Next episode is in Tangmere...I have visited on a number of occasions, very interesting and though provoking venue, not least as you park on the original apron upon arrival.

There’s a Red Dwarf special on Save, Thursday 9th April.

If we’re still alive to watch it.

Despite having tons of stuff recorded that would normally interest me I am totally bored with watching tv now.

Spending more time reading, good old fashioned stuff on paper.

Nearly finished this, a great read, amazing technology for a time when most still had black and white TVs and outside toilets.

Just finished James Holland's Normandy '44. An excellent read and probably the best book I've read on the Normandy campaign. Dispels a few myths and unlike most other books, covers the whole campaign up to July/August.

Now about to start his Fortress Malta book, with Burma '44 to follow. Who needs a feckin' telly...?

Ah, now we are talking! I have an extensive library of WW2 non-fiction. Next couple of reads for me are 'The Last Year of the Luftwaffe' and one about the little known last throw of the dice mass suicide mission by Luftwaffe pilots against the US Air Force over Germany. Also one about the development of Luftwaffe jet fighters.

Bit of a theme going there now i see it in writing!!

I've got Mary Beard's SPQR on the side as well, but it's a bit scholarly so I tend to dip in when the mood takes me. Also reading Max Hasting's Finest Years: Churchill as Warlord 1940-45 on the kindle (bath reading).
