not too sure about the BBC adaption that finished last night but it was a million times better than the Tom Cruise movie of a few years back.

If you haven't heard the Jeff Wayne album then take a listen to the few minutes minute of this, Richard Burton intro followed by the iconic theme tune...bet you'll want to listEn to the whole lt. many, many really talented artists from yesteryear feature, well worth a listen.

Headphones on or A/V cranked up...

The village they used for filming is the same one that was used in the Hinge and Bracket tv series.

Used to have a recording of the original radio play
Read the book when I was at school many years ago
Seen the Tom Cruise film - meh
Recorded the latest TV adaptation & just waiting for a little free time to sit down & watch it.
Bought the album when it came out, played it a couple of times than gave it away. Just not to my liking although I accept that there are many stars on it, the production is good as is the story, but I can't listen to it.

Programme years ago on making original film.

The sound of the capsule opening was a coffee jar lid- metal - being unscrewed while inside a toilet bowl!!!!

Plus one on that.

Bizarrely the guy on lead guitar when I saw it was the same bloke who played from behind the stage when The Sex Pistols performed live.

An interesting aside is that my son is moving into a house backing onto Horsell Common (where the first space ship landed) next week .

Will be a brilliant way of scaring the crap out of his kids when they get a bit older.:D

The guy on lead guitar when I saw the show was Chris Spedding who had a hit record called 'Motorbiking' back in the day!

I thought the TV programme was really disappointing. Looked forward to it but stopped watching after second episode (not just because Mrs SIB hated it)
The album was an inspiration and I still have it at home in vinyl form
On a more positive note good to know Andy's son's house move is about to happen and hope the negotiations to buy the range etc were successful
