Spooky ! EXACTLY the same here..
My dad bought it for me and said if I could get it going he would buy me a real bike
I got it going...... he did NOT buy me a real bike.
I bought a James Captain Deluxe ( deluxe 'cos it had a pillion seat )
But my first legal road bike ( wellll almost legal ) was a 1957 Royal Enfield Bullet

Was not till after I sold it I found out they never made a 250 bullet.. It was a 350 someone had worked a flanker on and got it registered as a 250 !

Suzuki AP50, followed by a Honda CB250G5.
My mate and I (he had a FS1E) waould take our exhausts off regularly, fold several thicknesses of silver foil over the end of the tail pipes and then fill them with a caustic soda solution until it ate through the foil.
That way we would get an extra 2 or 3 mph out of them for a day or two!
Or perhaps we just convinced ourselves that we did!

I bought a Honda cb 125, about 1979.
(old git) 1st bike and I was the coolest mother on the panet.
Saturday i rode it all day, showed all my mates. Then about a mile from home it came to a grinding halt, pushed it home around 2 in the morning. Sunday morning my old man, who was then a bus mechanic decided to remove engine from frame.
Removed cylinder head, tipped engine upside down and what was left of the piston fell in bits all over the yard.
That was my first lesson: Check that there is at least some oil in the engine thingy and don't be a dipstick.

I did a course with the RAC/ACU learning to ride on a 125 BSA Bantam. I knew how to already as we’d been racing mopeds around a disused quarry for a year or more. Found the course a piece of cake and when I passed I got a Triumph Tiger Cub as my first ever bike. Nowhere near as nice as this picture though.

Something like this. Mine was Vauxhall Honey Starmist (aka gold) after I rattle canned it. Massive cow horns, knobbly tyres, fixed rear sprocket....brilliant for riding the tracks on Banstead Downs....

A Lambretta 150LD which dad bought me. He said if I could get it running he would buy me a proper bike.. I was 13
I did my bit but he never came through
The first proper bike I bought was 18 months later, bought with money earned doing a paper round and a window cleaning round I started.
It was a James Captain Deluxe ( the deluxe had a pillion seat ! )

Cub 50 auto which I managed to entwine (along with myself) around a lamppost breaking both femurs in the process. Why I still ride I have no idea.

Got fixed and moved onto bigger things .... an AR125 !
