We often take left over food to our hens, last week I noticed a familiar plant growing outside the hen house, it has now got little tomatoes growing on it.

Interesting.. Was it simply cut open and left or was it watered ?
I was eating it and cutting bits as I went and cut to close to core and saw green bits!! Its in water until I can plant them.

I think they contain very small amounts of cyanide

Not so small, Minkey. The only reason we can eat them is that our stomach acid cannot break through their skin. Crush some up and feed them to your worst enemy.

I heard of a suicide recently where (I think) almond shells were crushed down and ingested as they are extremely poisonous.
