I quite like it, would like to have done similar if I hadn't ripped the crash bung out of the frame when I wrote mi Bird off.

I like the bike and as the oldest member on here a belated welcome to the site. MOST posters mean no harm with their jibes and as already been said there is a wealth of Bbird knowledge on here. As Abeaker said the charging structure is the Bbird's Achilles heel. I would recommend you add a micro voltmeter somewhere you can see it as a signal when the charging fails and as a constant reminder of the battery state. As the wiring is inevitably corroded a direct connection via an inline fuse from the rectifier to the battery will gain about a volt extra at the battery and cut the load on the alternator.

Already had to fit a new r/r as it was giving 17+ volts to the battery.
Got a new mosfet one and it's charging fine now, added a new battery also as I didn't know how long it was over charging before I got the bike.
I have fitted a battery charger cable with a battery monitor in it to keep a check. It flashes every 2-3sec

Ctek charger lead.

Just ignore the colour of the lights.

My bike fires up first touch of the button even when it's flashing red.

It would appear that from the above post its useless lol.
Personally if it starts showing red I knows something up which is the point of any of these lights is it not

Not at all sure about that.

A 'proper' led charging light will give an immediate indication if something is wrong. They will go red when the bike is idling and various other colours as you use the bike. In my experience you learn what pattern to expect as you use the bike and any change in pattern is obvious. This saved me being marooned twice when my charging circuit fried - both times I was in range of home got back before the thing spluttered to a halt. As an aside the carb will do about 60 miles on battery only, the FI about 40!

A digital voltmeter is also very useful - my preference is the led voltage indicarorcharging light asnit is always in peripheral vision while you need to consciously look at a digital voltmeter. However, as both are simple to install for a total of less than £20 that was my chosen route.

I am delighted you have mentioned that I am 'not a grumpy old Bird owner'.
