Well, woman did.... Friggin hernia decided to move again.
Blues and twos ... ambulance guys all over me..excruciating pain

Did a bp test and much to my surprise I had kept it under control 150 over 80 ( usually about 140 over 70 )
Heart rate was elevated at 90 ( usually at rest 62 )
They asked if I could do the stairs.. I said yes, at which point.............................

Plop !

Sodding thing went back in !!!!!!
So I did not get to jump the queue and have the op early.. Still gotta wait 'up to 5 years' !!!

5 years!

I saw my doctor and said I think I’ve got a hernia, caused by coughing of all things, and he agreed.

Then I saw a surgeon two weeks later and he agreed I had a hernia, I told him I already knew that. I’ll get an appointment in due time, don’t worry.

I got a pre-op appointment at a local hospital a few weeks later, and while the nurse was doing the necessary checks, height, weight, blood pressure, blood sugar etc. she said “oh dear”

She then took some more bloods, and went away and checked my urine sample I’d brought in with me. She came back and said she’d just cancelled my operation “ you are too ill to operate on” WTF!

Apparently I was severely diabetic, and I had no symptoms. My levels, you’ll know what I mean when I say my HBa1C level was 126 when it should be 47 or Lower ideally! And then my daily test strip level was 25 and it needs to be 4-7 or so.

I quickly saw several doctors in quick succession, each time told I was an “interesting case” and then was dispatched to my local diabetes centre for education and training on how to manage it.

It took me 9 months to get my levels down to a sensible level and I had my hernia op a few weeks later.

4 years on and I’m still on 2 huge tablets a day to help control it all.

The thing is I don’t fit the norm for those predisposed for type 2 diabetes, I’m 6-1, was only 15stone, don’t drink or smoke and reasonably fit for my age. I’ve lost perhaps a stone since leaving work and I play golf 3/4 days a week.

Hate beer mate.. do not really like the taste, and it is always so much effort to get pissed !
Funny that, I am the opposite these days. Even the thought of spirits makes me recoil, always think I am going to get a headache straight away and a hangover the following morning.
Beer and wine for me now, with the odd liqueur if offered.

Had to look up how to spell 'liqueur', funny word that. Presumably French.
