used to play a lot - and I mean A LOT - but like many others I packed it in when we started a family.

A good friend is in a similar position and we are both keen to start again so we have been hitting the driving range.

Happily I am hitting the ball well....but what I hadn't expected was that I can't see where the bloody thing is going about 70% of the time, presumably due to the reduced vision in my left eye. I can follow balls hit by others no problem.

Frustrating in the extreme.

Just saying, like.

I play regularly 3/4 days a week and I’ve found that when you know how to hit the ball where you want to you don’t have to worry about looking for where it’s gone. And anyway, if your playing partners were doing what they should they’d be watching for you as well. Brian, one of the guys I play with is extremely poorly sighted and has no idea where his ball is and almost has to be pointed to the hole.

The issue I have is hitting the ball where I want it to go at the moment!!
Thought I would have a wander round the pro shop......£470 for a driver:eeeeek:.

On close inspection the shaft was made in China and the head in Taiwan.

Assembled in Taiwan.

Someone is having a laugh.

Did look the swingers though. With the size of the club face it must be impossible too hit a bad shot......

It’s not a cheap old game, my new driver, Taylor Made M6 @ £380, 4 dozen Titleist pro-v1 were buy 3 get one free and personalised were £130 and they don’t last long, sometimes only 1 hit, oops, but a ball that doesn’t get lost will still only last a round.

Advertising hype or not, the M6 has a twist face and 470cc maximum size and supposed to keep shots straighter. So far I tend to agree.

I buy putters 2nd hand off eBay £30-£75 as I can’t justify £200 for a new one, that may not work.

Then I drove the trolley in the lake last year and fried it and my iPhone, cost me over £1500 to replace.

Then there’s £4.50 every competition entrance and I play 3 a week, thankfully I’m winning more than I spend so far this year :campeon:

Best of all though is I take my Labrador, Molly, along with me as caddy and so she gets plenty of walks, 4.5 miles each time, so she’s well exercised. And as I’m diabetic the exercise is good for me too.

Balls.

For reasons I don't understand there are a few 'antique' aka 'junk shops' here that sell picks ups four for £1. Some of them are rubbish but there is always without fail a good assortment of mint good brand balls available. Good enough for me!! Must have about 200 at the moment, that should last a few weeks....

Looking at the woods in the pro shop my c1985 Slazenger Nick Faldo metal driver is about the size of a modern five wood!

I don’t play with pickup balls unless it’s during the winter when you don’t need to play with a good ball. I’ll collect plenty of them during rounds and I’ll take a hundred or so in to the pro for the juniors to learn with.

All these golf balls left round for wildlife to find & choke on, totally irresponsible, time golf was banned, boring & pointless.

I think they should combine golf with clay pigeon shooting.

Just been & played walking football, when I got there some guys turned up trying to get us interested in signing up for walking cricket, cricket is boring enough without slowing it down, next they’ll be inventing running golf.
