Fears and phobias

Its more a fear of falling. I cant even watch heights on telly, even get pains shooting down my spine at its worse. But can work on roofs and high scaffolds!!
I too am not great with heights, strangely I am fine when inside a building (no doubt from having worked for a couple of years on the 36th floor with full height windows) and am ok on ladders (as long as 'someone' isn't fussing around the bottom telling me to be careful) but put me in the open three floors up and I am not great. Like you, I can't watch anyone on tv doing anything at a great height!

Bizarrely, this is one of my favourite pictures...

Hights, I can't stand the thought of falling, that's why I took a balloon ride and jumped off the Stratosphere in Vegas, twice!! up until this last brain fart, as John so eloquently puts it I could go up ladders with no problem, any higher was a lot iffy though.

Lot to be said for facing fears - I used to be terrier of roller coasters and the like...when I took my then 8 year old to Disney I was determined not to spoil it for him and vowed I would go on anything he wanted to go on...when I finally realised I wasn't going to die then I really got into it

I got over my fear of snakes by keeping pet ones.

I was never afraid of snakes, but Yvo was until she handled mine  they like her and she likes them, as she is like a hot water bottle, and they like her warmth.

Taking off in a plane,
plus you would never get me down a pothole, even though I used to do scuba diving.

I used to be a nervous flyer but to me it's just like getting on a bus now. If anything I just find it boring.

Have to sit by the window though so I can see what's going on.

Only time I have been scared in recent years is once when taking off from Gatwick and we went straight into zero visibility cloud - first and only time I have ever experienced spacial disorientation, believed to be one of the biggest causes of air crashes. I can fully understand why, more than disconcerting.

The bit that I don't like is just after take off and they throttle back it feels like the engines have stalled to me.

It helps if you know what to expect..take off, wheels up clunk, flaps in whirrrrrr, engines throttle back after about thirt seconds.

But focussing on the stewardesses helps a lot.
