this time a Daimler-Benz.

What makes it interesting? Well, other than the obvious, look where the cylinders and heads are.

Never knew that!!

Oh the irony of the post title and the tech drawing in Japanese.

Well I thought a 'internal' diagram might be interesting and the best one I could find was the one I used.

Obviously I should have gone for the rubbish one with Englander writing on it.

Obviously.

Anyway, can't you read Chinese? Actually it's not Chinese, but that will only confuse you more.

That or really spooky.
Last night I could not sleep..I have caught Woman’s cold and was burning up

Wellllll.... you know what it is like when you are just laying there.. mind tends to wander
I got to thinking about putting two Bird engines in a small car, mounted in a space frame.
This led me to wondering about mounting the upside down..I finally fell asleep trying to work out a dry sump system with over head ( now bottom of the engine) scavenging.

I had forgotten al about it until I saw your post....

Is that a fighter engine, looks like a messerschmitt they had "upside down" engines, they even put Rolls Royce from shot down and abandoned british Spitfires, in the same chassis.

Another Messerschmitt with an interesting engine - absolutely stunning in 1944/5, albeit massively flawed concept...

Looks like they fitted the engines upside-down to keep the cowling as narrow as possible! Lubrication must be dry-sump type! :godsdrink0nw:

I've never thought about it before but lubrication in a piston aircraft engine must be a challenge as it is going to spend a lot of time at attitudes that aren't straight and level.

The Bf109 had the additional challenge of having a ruddy great cannon firing through the propellor hub as well.

I know the spitfire suffered fuel starvation in a dive, this was cured by an invention by a lady that worked putting the planes together, this small cheap addition really surprised the Germans that used to use a dive to get away. I dont know if they had baffles in the oil pan though!!
