What the ? Soon to be ex Bird owner

After 11 years, it would appear that I'm soon to be an ex-Bird owner. Had to brake hard due to a truck coming round a corner too fast, hit a drain cover & slid less than gracefully on my side into the back of a car.

Insurance company thinks they'll write it off as uneconomical to repair. Just gotta argue about the pennies now.

Glad you are ok.

Them plastics are expensive so be prepared for a write off.

Do you have a decent feel for the pre slide value? If not stick some details, around age, miles and condition on here.

Not that I would condone such a thing, but some owners might remove the rack, comfort seat and any others bits and pieces before assessment......

It's a write off, the insurance co have arranged to collect it tomorrow. Luckily, the wingrack & seat 'weren't' on the bike at the time of the accident ;)

That's too bad.
Can you buy it back????

Not sure that I want to. New fairings, nose cone, mirror casings, front fender, replacement tank, nose cone bracket, both brake levers, repair lower fairing mounts (snapped off the engine casing lower right side) , dent in frame where crash bung was ripped out, then respray & that's all i've found after a quick look. There could be more. All that to own a Cat C/D (now S/N).

To be honest, it's not worth that much of my time & effort.

I was considering changing it anyway as I reached the age where the aches & pains took the pleasure out of riding it for more than 40-50 minutes.

I agree. Total no brainer.

Great opportunity to buy a car instead.

Not the way I'd like to see my ownership of the BIRD end. :crybaby2:

I'm hoping to pass mine onto my grandson in a couple of yrs time after all he's been riding pillion on it since he was 7. (Is there too much sentimentality there?)

Jeeeez bad luck your bike looks bad, but good that you didn't land up in hospital. What about the car was there much damage to that?

Only damage to the car was a broken fog light.

As for buying a car Andy, I've already got one of those, it's a bike I'm now short of

Glad you were able to walk away from it, Lee.

I agree with Andy though, get a car instead. I know you have one already but buy a diesel, they're awesome. And clean.

Failing that, I would hope you'd be able to pick up a tidy 'Bird with your insurance pay out :beer-toast1:

I bet if you could get a diesel Bird you would be all over it. Particularly if they did an estate.

That's it, the Bird has flown, or rather piggy backed on a truck. The salvage co came at 6.00pm

This is the first time in over 20 years I've been without a bike & I must say, it's not very pleasant.
