Hi folks.. After more than 100 bikes managed to land myself a 2003 Blackbird with 25000 miles on it. Only got it yesterday so not had the chance to get out on it yet...hoping this is 'the one'@tu*
At least you had the sense not to picture it in front of house..........
You would have got a free critique of the house and garden.

You see, everybody in here has a perfect place, especially Andy:buitre:.

Hi all,

Great forum, signed up a few days ago as just purchased my first Blackbird. I’ve had sports bikes before TL1000R, R1 & Aprillia RSVR, “I was slimmer & younger” got a BMW R1200gsa now, but miss a sports bike so thought I’d get a real sports bike “THAT SORT OF FITS”. Funds are tight so purchased a 2003 Blackbird locally “cheap-ish”.

Good points: Black, Akrapovics, Power Commander set up by HM Racing, ok miles 42k, rides nice. Bagster saddle, tank cover & bag.

Bad points: It’s been a commuter, corrosion on forks.....and everywhere :( , sketchy history.....loads of bills & receipts but not for the last few years. Slight marks & scuffs. (I think I will put it in for a full service for peace of mind).

I’m sure it hadn’t been properly cleaned for years, give it a good going over and to my surprise come up pretty good, going to strip off fairing next weekend to clean and see what needs sorting.

I will hopefully see you all at a meet soon

Kind regards,

Liam

Hi Liam, Welcome to the Dementia Ward.

Sounds like someone spent some decent moeny on it at some time. The corrosion on the forks is a common problem.
Don't use a Honda stealer unless you absolutely trust them. They'll charge you to do the valve clearances and it won't need it at 42k. They'll also slap synthetic oil in and that's a no-no.

AndyBirdless will be a long in a minute to convert you to four wheels. He is from the Dark Side so you must resist at all costs.

Hi and welcome :)
Like Cougar said, do NOT use a Honda dealer.. and who even does it tell em not to touch the valve clearances.. First time they need checking is 100,000 mile .. After working excusively on Birds for 17 years I have NEVER found a clearance out .. Yet every time a Honda main stealer checks someones valves they always need adjusting..... funny that.... What is even stranger is they manage to adjust the clearances without lifting the cam cover !!! Amazing !!
Oh, and the XX thrives on semi synth and often dislikes fully synth in them

It seems like you have the good points and the bad points the wrong way round.
