Hyabusa Front End Conversion

USD Conversion finished (almost)

OK, so finished off today with a quick bleed of the brakes and a short test ride before final reassembly ready for a good blast tomorrow.

Luckily HEL Brake lines is just 25 miles from me so I put the BB on a trailer in the week and took it up to them. They have a fit your lines for free service...nice!

Ran two lines to the rear and as everyone said it is a bit wooden, will have to look at that in the future......

As to the front well that's perfect, plenty of feeling and what a difference to the old linked system (glad I bought the original Suzuki master cylinder...there's ?70 I'll never get back).

The Nitron shock is a revelation, did a quick circuit on a less than perfect windy B road near home and the difference was immediate. As to the geometry, all my measuring seems to have paid off, the steering is quick and light and although I was not going mental (new front tyre an all that) it stayed exactly where I put it in every corner.

To top it all I think it looks pretty good. I had the original rear wheel powder coated black to match the Hayabusa front and I think the black wheels make look more up to date. After all it's a 14 year old bike!

The mudguard was painted by a local car place for ?30 and although it's not perfect it's a pretty good match.

Thanks to all for your input.... pics below

Rear master cylinder from a 2002 NSR125 fits perfectly in place of the BB one.
Just needs the push rod shortening.

It is 12.7mm bore and gives the feeling back to the rear brakes.

You will need an M10 x 1.0mm double banjo for it because the BB one is M10 x 1.25 and wont fit.

Impressive.
Seeing this makes me think if Honda bothered their arses to update the bike it would easily out sell the vfr 12 and all the competition in its class. Its still fulfilling a niche that has potential to sell further bikes.
Knock 15kg off, abs radials on usd forks, another 20 horse and better ergos, switchable map for economy.
Well done on the refresh, shame Honda didnt bother.
Consider convertibars in place of flat bars, more adjustability. Actually scratch that as its not a goer with your yokes.

Looks great but the only problem is the busa forks lower the front end by about 15mm. I got round this by having a top yoke made plus 75mm fork extenders to which fireblade clip-ons are mounted. Over the winter I will be replacing the springs with ohlins plus K-tech 20ssk fork valves.

When you fitted the fork extensions - I noticed on their fitting video that the also lift the damper rod by the length of the extension tubes.

Has this not defeated the compression damper adjuster ?
I might be misunderstanding how the compression circuit works and lifting the rod does nothing to change it.

Also - what did you do about the air gap ? ( you now have another 75mm to contend with )

No the compression damping is the same with the extension . The oil level is the same as without the extensions but takes more oil to reach the same level.

Clueless in most things
I quite like the look of that upgrade on the forks.

The problem I think is when you look at the bikes claiming to be the fastest, the bird, busa and zz14, they all seem to follow certain rules of aerodynamics that mean they rarely are the nicest looking bikes and have very little leeway cosmetically to play with.

I think where the bird was let down by Honda is that concentrated so much on those few last mph, that after a while they just gave in.

Had they continued with the best sports tourer rather than the highest speed by a few miles, then I think it would still be current. Updated forks and brakes, slight cosmetic changes may well have seen a bike still current in their range.

The front brakes are much better than the standard Honda calipers, the forks are superb.

Was it springs and a re-valve you had done to the forks ?
What information did he need from you to set up the forks ?
Ballpark price ?

I’ve owned this bike for the last couple of years . Absolutely love her.
Would really appreciate if anyone has a contact for Gegg_247.

would be a big help knowing your exactly which fork seals I need to purchase (apologies if it’s easily known from the thread. I’m a rider but know fu*k all about mechanics) ;)

give me a computer any day
