Hi Guys, New here. Go easy. I am looking at the Givi range of tank lock bags for my Bird, but Givi don't seem to do a corresponding locating tank lock flange to go around the Blackbird fuel cap to secure the bag although some bike retailers have suggested that flange kit BF03 will indeed fit as it fits most other Hondas. I emailed Givi for confirmation and got a shitty reply (see below), so now ask the great brains of the forum if they or they know anyone who has indeed managed to fit a Givi tank lock QR bag to their Blackbird? It beggars belief that one of the best touring bikes is not catered for by a leading luggage manufacturer and they have no plans to assist by producing one which should be pretty simple.

Btw here is Givi's reply to my enquiry: Great customer service!

Good Afternoon and thank you for your email.

I note your interest in the Givi tanklock system. I would advise that we do not currently produce a tanklock fitting that is compatible with the 07 model of the Honda Blackbird.

We do not recommend that a tanklock fitting made for a different make / model / year of motorcycle is forced to fit as not only will this compromise the integrity of the fitting but it may also prove hazardous as it may cause fuel to leak from the filler cap.

At Givi we offer a multitude of different luggage options. If you would care to take a look at the Givi.co.uk website, you may find an alternative to the tanklock system that may prove suitable for your needs.

Thank you for contacting Givi UK.

They couldn't give a monkeys or monokeys ...........

Does anyone have any experience of Oxford's QR tank bags? Will their QR mechanism fit to the Bird tank and if so which attachment ring do I need - type 3?

Cheers guys, hoping that some one will at least be able to offer a solution.

Looking at Partzilla the BB Fuel cap is an identical part number to that for many other Hondas so therefore any of the Givi mounting plates for those models should fit

http://www.partzilla.com/parts/detail/honda/HP-17620-MAS-E03.html

BTW Givis response sounds like plausible deniability

Thanks Mike.

Well partzilla only lists the Blackbird up to 2003 and mine's an '07. Honda surely can't have changed the shape/design of the tank fuel filler cap topside and bolt pattern for later models???

It may be registered in 07 but they had actually stopped making them before that ;)

Not their problem, they don't give a 4X more like it.
It's not a current model, they haven't tested it and their lawyers have (probably) advised them not to recommend a fitment so that they can't get sued if something goes wrong

Well I guess the only significant difference between early and late models is FI, but would that necessitate a different tank filler cap???

Nb There may well be significant other differences as well that seasoned forum members could tell me about, but please go easy on me. I'm new.

There may be differences with pre 99 carby models but if something is listed for a 99-03 FI then it will fit an 07 or 08 registered Bird (unless you have an old carby that was sat around for 10 years before being first registered)

But they state they supply specific flanges for other older models of bike that are not current or no longer current. I mean what a stupid company if they can't provide a simple fitting kit or test whether the existing kit suitable for Honda bikes is fully compatible with the Blackbird. They do want to sell their goods don't they or I am getting the impression they just cba?

Anyway thanks for your help.

Mine's actually an Fi XX06 registered in '07.

sometimes a pinch of salt helps ;)

FWIW I personally (based on what I've researched) would just go ahead and fit a suitable alternative however I can't recommend you do the same as I haven't actually done it :)

Why lol? That's probably 100% accurate...

If it's probably 100% then it's a certainty not a probability. LoL for the response.

Do you have any advice on tank lock bags?

I was looking at these myself, now I know this includes the bag but look here

Clueless in most things
by simply putting "cbr1100xx givi tank" into ebays search I got 60 givi tank bags but almost all were from Germany

This one, one of many, lists blackbirds 97-07 if you check further down the page on the advert

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Givi-tank...173667?hash=item41a5e5c763:g:lKoAAOSwQTVWAPNA

Personally I just put a bit of old cloth down to protect the tank and then use a cheapo magnetic tank bag that has the benefit of a waterproof cover if I need one

You'll fit in well with this crowd @tu*

Since Givi are clearly lying to you only because they don't want to sell you something, why don't you just get a lock ring from a bike with the same pattern and be done with it?

ianrobbo1

good looking AND modest
Alex, dont get sucked in, he didn't even tell them the correct year of manufacture, so their data bank wont have had the correct information, so they will have had to send that letter, and at a guess the last time they researched the bird was on the date quoted for parts that fit at that time, they as a company wont know if later models will have different parts.:dunno:

And NO I also cant recommend an alternative!!:-0)

BF03

Against my better judgement due to Givi's awful customer service I got a Givi BF03 fitting kit for the tank from M&P. ?13.99 for a metal ring with several holes in it! Rip off. The BF03 fitting kit is just a metal ring specific to the tank filler plate with a few bolts to secure it (take the originals out). The Givi tank bag has a reciprocal generic plastic ring that sits beneath this metal ring and onto which you click the tank bag. Anyway all done now.
