Hyabusa Front End Conversion

Thanks for reminding me as I seem to have been telling porkies, as I now remember a chap on cbrxx.com who goes by wolfieblue22 was doing the busa swap in 2011 and he tracked down the bearing at the same place , then it was $50 plus silly postage money . Being a tightwad I bought 2 of the 30 47 12 bearings from Hong Kong plus had a spacer made for just under half the price.

GEG247 Is that the bird master cylinder on the bike? If you are planing to use this it will be way too small . An ideal ratio is around 27:1 . The birds master cylinder is 13mm which gives you 48:1 . The Brembos have 8 32mm pistons which give you an area of 6434mm sq compared with 2572 mm sq for the birds 6 front pistons ( delinked and drilled) A 17mm piston gives you 28.3:1 (softish) 18mm gives you 25.28:1 and 19mm gives you 23:1. a ratio of 19:1 would be rock solid with no feel (wooden)

Wow....thanks for the highly detailed info. The pictures I posted are only of the test fit I did quickly to make sure I had clearances as the yokes were the first ones the guy had made (need not have worried they were perfect).

Since then I have stripped it all down and done a complete fit, had to re route some cables and bugger about with the height a bit but it's almost there now ready for the sunshine. Had the mudguard painted to match and got carried away and fitted a Nitron shock (with hydraulic preload adjuster)!

It looks pretty good, I'll post some pics when it's done.

I was actually going to ask someone on here about the brakes as this was causing me concern....I was thinking that I would run two hoses to the rear and that this would probably be ok, I have read that this is what others have done (should look nice as well). Do you have any recommendation for a front master cylinder or should I just go with one from a Hayabusa?

Thanks

Geoff

I ran a single hose to the rear operating just 2 of the pistons & that along with a change of master cylinder to 5/8 from memory gives an excellent controllable rear brake @tu*

The busa front master cylinder or one of the same bore & stroke is what you need if using the stock busa brakes :-0) if you don't have one be careful you don't end up with one of the dodgy gsxr ones that are still being sold on ebay

I have just bought a pair of new Brembo's that are fitted to the GSXR1000 and Hayabusa http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-Ha...564424?hash=item1ea70b7388:g:FmoAAOSweuxWRfDq .These are to replace the Yamaha R1 Gold spots i had on the busa forks. I don't know what size the 2015 hayabusa master cylinder is but i am looking at either 18mm or 19mm. If you go for brembo ,Accossato aftermarket cylinders , 19x18 will give you a lever wth more feel while 19x20 will give you a harder lever with less feel. As for the rear brake i ran 2 lines and it is as hard as rock with no feel.

I managed to get the original master cylinder from the actual donor bike of my forks so I am hoping that this will be ok.....think I'll test it before I shell out for an ASV lever to match my existing clutch one. ASV stubby brake lever for a Honda blackbird anyone!

As to the rear, I'll be guided by you chaps and I'll blank the centre and just run one line to the rear.

Thanks again.

14 mm seems on the small side , The R6/R1 calipers i have just taken off has a16 mm master cylinder but would be better with a 17mm. What is the size of the master cylinder fitted to the GSXR 1000/ Hayabusa fitted with the Brembo calipers? These have 4x 32mm pistons.

I agree 14mm does seem small but that is what is cast in to the side of it for my 2008 front end. ( the Haynes manual and various rebuild kits also confirm 14mm on the 2008 and later bikes )

Don't forget that the lever ratio also has a big part.

You can have a very high fluid ratio but calm it down with a low lever ratio.

The brembo style radial masters only have an 18 or 20 mm lever fulcrum point.
They rely on a larger piston being moved a small distance for braking.

The std Hayabusa uses a 27mm lever fulcrum point.
It relies on a smaller piston being moved a longer distance for braking.

OK so now I am officially confused, I guess I will just have to do this through trial and error.

I think the R6 is 16x20. I am looking at replacing the brake with a Frando master cylinder which is 19x18 . The clutch is 17x18 but they do a 14 15 16x18 but the smaller sizes are harder to find.

I am sticking with the master cylinder that was fitted to the 2008 Hayabusa with it's radial brakes.

It works on the Hayabusa so it is a good starting point for now.

The master on the latest Hayabusa is still 14mm but the calipers have now changed :

2008 models were 2 x 32mm & 2 x 30mm
Latest calipers are 4 x 32mm
