After my off a few of the fairing bolts need replacing, but the question is what sort to replace with? Am I right in thinking a lot of people have used the Pro-bolt kits? Which are better, aluminium or stainless? Can't afford the titanium stuff...unless I sell a kidney ????

If you are not replacing all of them I would stick with OEM - they were about ?4 each from david silver

If you are intent on using Pro-Bolt go with the stainless, the aluminium ones are soft & don't take much to screw the heads up + the anodizing soon comes off or fades out on the coloured ones

Was thinking that the rest look a bit weathered too so might replace as a full set

I sort of thought that would be the case. I'm not intent on using Pro-bolt, so can anyone suggest alternative stainless other than OEM?

If you have a bench grinder then get a polishing wheel for it, they soon come back to life, or some autosol and a rag. just done mine on the bench wheel and they look like new now.

Take one of each to your local bolt stockist and ask them to match the lengths in button head stainless steel ones with matching washers.
Then toddle of to your local plump centre or what ever and get a mtr of 6mm plastic tubing

Cut spacers from the tubing and the jobs a good un
Total cost.. maybe ?8.00

FFS DON'T take a polishing wheel to the fasteners PLEASE!! I did and took off the protective coating very quickly, they can then go rusty overnight and it's next to impossible to get rid of, I replaced a lot of my "Bungee" hooks with Stainless from

Paul, who is a member on here, he did a fantastic job at a very reasonable price,@tu*

If you go OEM just use a bit of loving rubbing by hand  rather than a wheel, they do come up nice with a bit of "gentle" cleaning, or look at some of the bike breakers for second hand fasteners, most just dump them in a box so you might get a mixture of different ones, but a lot cheaper than Mr Silvers!!:dunno:

I tried the probolt aluminium ones. The bolts are like soft cheese and I had to drill a couple of broken ones back out. I did like the chamfered washers though, so I bought myself some hardened steel bolts and liked the contrast in colours.

You can also buy the chamfered washers from some carting parts suppliers. I think that's where I got a few from on ebay.
I had some 15mm plastic barrier pipe to use as my spacers.

Simple question for a simpleton !

Are the OEM fairing bolts plain old steel or stainless ?

I got a lot of mine plastic coated years ago and they look shite now so looking for the next way to tart them up especially as the 6 little holes are all clogged up

Plated steel that corrodes as soon as the plating goes thin.

There is a Titanium set on fleabay ( company called titan classics ) but they don't have the dimples in them.
