You have a week in June, say from Saturday to the following Friday, no work, kids in kennels, someone looking after the dogs. SHMBO has asked to go touring (First Time). So where do you head for? :lick:

If its this Country... Have a look at the area around Seahouses, ( just South of Holy Island) Northumbria.
Fantastic roads, brill scenery, and the booz is cheap.
And the road 'over the tops' is also a fantastic way to get there.

This country or abroad, it matters not, although a trip down south for a ferry from here would be a day lost battling motorway traffic and the same returning, and Hull to Rotterdam is quite expensive. :dunno:

Hi guys, my first post. I've just got to answer this one. w;;v

June is made for the north west of Scotland, The roads and scenery are to die for. June normally means no midge and generally dryer settled weather.

Day 1 Travel to Scotland, stop at Dumfries.

Day 2 Take the A76 north to Kilmarnock, A/M77 and M8 to the west of Glasgow, over the Erskine bridge and A82 north up the side of Loch Lomond, A83 Tarbet to Lochgilphead, A816 to Oban.

Day 3 A85 then A828, then A82 to Fort William, head west on the A830 to Mallaig for the Skye ferry then A851 to Broadford. (Book 2 nights B+B)

Day 4 Circumnavigate Skye. (The roads were made for the Bird)

Day 5 Return to the mainland via the Skye bridge, A87 east to Invergarry, then A82 south and east via Fort William, Glen Coe and Tynedrum to Crianlarich. A85 and A84 to Stirling.

Day 6 Go home???(Via the Kingdom of Northumberland if you wish, Murt forgot to mention the fish and chips at Seahouses).

These are some of the best roads Scotland has to offer, your rear shock and tyres will get a hard time so make sure they have plenty of life in them before you set out.

best bit of advice i was given was to ensure i was always in easy reach or train station / airport.

That way if SWMBO isnt happy about it, you can pack her off home

Sounds harsh, but as it turned out a good idea :yo: and she is the Ex now anyway :neenaw:

Head for the Chunnel and keep going south and dont stop until it gets nice and hot and then go looking for somewhere to pitch tent or a cheapo travelodge type place like the Formula 1's etc.

Fantastic

Its a Scottish conspiracy, but it looks like it's worked, SWMBO is even looking up B&Bs.

Hop on a ferry to Ireland - stay away from Dublin and your made. Head for the west - Kerry, Clare, Galway, and Donegal. Do what speed you want - remember Irish police cannot as yet put points on an English Licence - in fact they cant even collect the fixed fine. In June B&Bs will be very reasonable outside the prime tourist traps. You wont regret it.

John,
How about into Dublin by ferry, then down toward Arklow, Wexford, following the coast around via Cork, up to Limerick, Galway then across to Dublin for the ferry. Having never been before thats just an idea off the map? :dunno:
