Vermuelen's Home GP debut - how do you think he'll do?

Chris Vermuelen makes his MotoGP debut at Phillip Island this weekend - his home GP.

I've always admired the guy and really hope he makes a good impression riding the Camel Honda in place of Bayliss.

Only 16 hours to go and we'll see him on track - can't wait, I love watching the racing at Phillip Island, blinding track.

He's not had much time at all to test the RC211V so how do you think he's going to get on?

Still kickin' it!
...Crazy (but cool) Chris...

...Well... :-:

...New bike...New tyres...Different class of competition...

The biggest factor he's got to come to terms with is the bike - didn't he test-ride a V5 earlier this year? :dunno: I may be wrong but, if he did Honda will have some data to help him set the thing up.

He's a spectacular, Hayden-type racer who loves to slide the bike around  - I just hope the different tyres don't inhibit his style too much! At least, he's on familiar ground and I wouldn't be surprised if he turned in the best results of the Bayliss substitutes so far.

I'll stick me neck out and predict a top-ten finish... 8l1nd

Yea, you are right Sam - he is one of my tips for the top.
Of the new crop of budding GP riders waiting to get a ride I think he stands about the best chance, even above young Pedrosa who I beleive has all the talent but not the weight, and that will be his down fall if any.
I reckon Vermulen is a thinking man's rider and so with his skills as a development rider it adds up to a good package, if he goes well he might do GPs as early as next year, not too many crashes either.
Dovizioso is another one I think who will make a good GP rider.

I hope he does well - he's one of my favourite riders. It seems like a tall order to get used to the bike in such a short space of time though. What will be interesting is how close he gets to Barros. Looking at how Shakey Byrne was doing on the bike, he was getting close to being 0.5s or so slower (than Barros). If Vermulen is slower than that on a circuit he knows well, where will that leave Shakey??

...I Know, Sam...

...It's a lot to expect...But when you watch Vermeulen race you're watching a rider who consistently balances total commitment with total control - and he doesn't often make a mistake...("Crazy...but coo-ool"!! :-: )

...If he can get the bike sorted half-way to his liking, the one thing you can bet on is...He's gonna go for it!!! :lick:

...As you said..."fingers crossed for the lad"...If all goes well (and I hope it does)...This could really be the start of something big...!!! :yo:
