Top 10 Sports Tourers ?

Has anyone seen the Men & Motors Top 10 Sports Tourers prog that was on last nite (probably a repeat). Our beloved Blackbird was 2nd in front of the Hi-Bus and the ZZR12, but it was beaten into 1st place by the VFR800 !!

What a damn cheek, anyone agree with the journo's, or are we just the best and they are wrong again.

The bike they showed was, of course, a Titanium 'bird, which is what mine is under the fancy pruple paint, etc.

Blackbird (Silver/Titanium only) :yo:

Top 10 Sports Tourers

russ_fae_fyvie,

Didn't see the program being on the other side of the world an all but when can you believe a jurno, they haven't even got a real job.

Blackbirds are real bikes for real bike riders.

Cool as a Cucumber
Yes I watched this thought we would be Number one too as the problembs they have had with the vtech you just have to look on the vfr web site this is why I went for the BLUEbird after alot of reserch. The 750s and the pre vtech bikes are awsome but they are gettin old and high miles now so WHAT DO YOU DO.

WELL.......................

I had a 1998 VFR 800 fi, which was a great bike. BUT, I suffered from wind blast/buffeting, which I tried to cure with a D/B screen, with little success. ALSO, although the VFR was quick enough, I did have to play tunes on the gear lever to `make it go` .

It went.

NOW, I have a year 2000 Blackbird which has much better power characteristics and is a REAL hoot to ride!!!!

The VFR I would say is more SPORTS

The Blackbird more TOURER

But for everyday use/pleasure, I prefer the Bird !!!!

Russ, that's why it came second mate!!!

If they'd used a :bow: BLUE:bow: one it would have been first choice :}
I saw the programme and I rode a loan V-TEC when my BB last went into a Honda dealer for a service (some 8k miles ago). I didn't like it, especially that V-TEC business. It comes in like the old "overdrive" on the car, i.e. ya' suddenly launched forward -which is all fair and well unless you wanna brake suddenly. Nah, not for me, I'll stick to the BB.
As for the programme in general, well any top 10 which includes the GSX750F is gotta be pants. It was a typical M&M production, though not as bad as TWO WHEELS.

I wondered if anyone would pick up on that colour !!!

The other REALLY bad thing about that program was that Dave Lee Travis was the narrator !! JESUS CHRIST !!!:B

How anyone can vote for an 800 over a 1100 for touring beats me anyway, having to use the gears more often, and like you say Joe all that VTec malarky, the journos must have been paid pretty well !

JOURNO SCUM :shooter:

Perhaps it was due to the fact that there was no BB's available for the Journo scum to ride because us BB owners are loathed to part with our beasts whereas there was a glut of VFR's but they missed the comment "Please take the feckin' thing" as they collected the keys.

I know this is going to provoke some comment but ........

I'm afraid I'd have to go along with the M&M result.

I know I have a somewhat jaded view of the BB, but having sold a VFR (and my Thunderace) to buy it, I still consider the VFR to be the better of the two bikes for all round sports touring use. The BB is too focused on sport only, but with a nod towards the touring aspect. I personally find mine uncomfortable, unstable, thirsty, and has been (unusual I realise) unreliable. Best thing about it is ....it's black, cos it says so on the side. Bloody quick mind you, but when you're touring, speed ain't always what you need.

Now I do realise that it may be just my P.O.S., but given the tour of Europe I did last year on the VFR, if I had to do it again and had the choice of the VFR and the (read 'mine') BB, then my BB would stay behind. Each and every time.

Before anyone asks why I still have it, you tried getting a good deal on a bike this time of the year?, and money don't grow on trees! (well not in my garden, but come to think of it, nothing grows in my garden for long!).
I wish I liked mine as much as you all appear to love yours. Life's a bitch, (I know I married two 'em!).

I'm now ducking down behind the parapet, cos I'm sure the flak will start !!!

mike

Joeboy. now you've gone and done it! I used to have a 99 GSX750F before the bird and I loved that bike. It took me and the wife round France and Spain in the summer and everything worked as advertised on the tin, and I did 7000 miles in ten months without any problems, apart from with the carbs in winter (which I get on the Bird too).
I have to say, I had more people come up to me and say how much they loved the look of the Suzook than I've ever had with the 'Bird. They don't read Bike magazine!
The 'Bird is a better bike, without question, but the old GSX ain't half as bad as some would have you believe!

Aidey, you on drugs???

:lol: Many moons ago I had one too mate, only 'cos at the time I couldn't afford anything better. You gotta admit - it's pig ugly :}
BTW - I regularly ride over to Spain (last trip - Valencia GP - November 2002). Have to admit though I never rode over on the Suzook tea pot/baboon arse and it was one of the worst bikes I ever owned (and I've had a few!). You must 'av got a good 'un!
If you fancy another trip yourself, see the ride-out forum as there are a few us going over in May.

Joeboy, you do read Bike magazine, that's where the baboons arse bit comes from!
Nah, don't do drugs, but I still maintain the GSX is a good budget bike. After all, I went there from a 600 Divvy. Now that was a quantum leap in techno!

As for you Mike.....................

shame really. You must have purchased a Friday afternoon job.
Having owned a Triumph 955i before, I got my BB new, in April 2001. I've done over 16k trouble free miles and visited Spain, Holland, Belgium and France. Nothing (& I mean NOTHING) has gone wrong (except the poxy Spyball alarm). The bike has never missed a beat, it starts first time and I scratch with my mates on Blades, R1's, ZX9R's, etc and I keep up. I love the handling and it fits me like a glove.
On returning from the Valencia GP in November 2002, I thought about changing it ('cos I have a low boredom threshold) and test rode a ZX12R for a day (wouldn't own a BUSA - too ugly :f ). I have decided to keep the Bird 'cos, it might not be as quick as the 12 and the BB might be heavier and not as focused, but I simply like the all round package the BB provides me with, so I'm keeping until the new 'un comes out.

Baboons arse? RU on drugs?

I have to agree with Aidey, I had a GSXF before the GSXR I had before the 'Bird (er, I think) and it was great. I went all over on it, comfortable two up, fast enough and never missed a beat. True it was ugly, but so am I. In fact it (and more so the GSXR) may result in me owning an uglybug 'Busa later this year.
