Sadly yesterday was a bad day managed to crash my bike, damage down the left side after a 30 mph spill, now at the roadside i couldn't find neutral at all just felt like it was jammed in gear. Got recovered home and went and had another play rocked it back and forth up and down the gears and hey presto neutral light came on and was able to start it.

i have ran the bike through the gears on the centre stand and seems to select fine.

million dollar question is do you think it's safe to ride or is there damage lurking inside the box and why did it jam in the first place??

Thanks
Ed

Jaws is away for a few days, Eddie.

No-one else seems to want to comment so my advice would be if the bike is rideable then ride it. You are unlikely to cause any further damage to the gearbox if there already is any. Did it fall on the gear lever side?

Clueless in most things
Sometimes things get stuck and need a bit of brute force to release, you say it seems to be working okay, so I'd try and put some mileage on reasonably locally to you just to ease your mind. Might also be worth an oil change to see what comes out?

As it went down on the LHS there is a possibility that the gear shaft was either pushed in slightly or even bent, either could cause it to stick in gear but as it has freed up I very much doubt its bent, just a little misalignment is more likely

My advice is to ride it & make sure it changes freely at lower speed/revs then if confident ride as normal, if a bike has been dropped an oil & filter change is always a good idea @tu*
