Silly Season

After riding through the winter I?m looking forward to warmer weather but unfortunately the silly season is fast approaching. It will soon be the time of year when all those sports bikes that have been stowed away over the winter hit the roads. When all those frustrated and saddle rusty bikers don their racing leathers and scare the crap out of the likes of me. Soon ?Valentino wannabees? will be wobbling around at warp speed and winding up other road users pretty much wherever they go. So after a winter of having the road to yourself, as far as bikes go, when you?re filtering just watch out for Valentino coming up behind you. He?s just got back on his bike and, after a winter of driving the car, nothing is going to get in his way!

Having spent 10 years commuting/despatching in London, I feel I have paid my dues and if I wish to ride only on sunny Sundays then that is my choice. If you wish to ride through the winter then good luck and I wish you well.

If I wish to resort to the Mondeo and the heater and the radio, then that's also my prerogative; I will move out of your way when I see you coming.

My bike is shiny and my leathers are clean, but I am neither rusty or frustrated, and should my presence scare you on the road then I suggest you get out of the way and let me on my way.

Granted, there are probably some out there who fit into your narrow vision of fair-weather bikers. But there are many of us out there who are more than capable of riding on a wet/icy road, who just choose not to.

Huh ! London dispatchers .. load of woos's !! :p

Now me, I did years of long distance stuff..
Typical day

200 miles from home at 2pm.. you get a call that sends you even further away.. Do the job, back home by 8.. wash and polish the bike ( yes EVERY night else in the morning the guvnor would turn you away and give the work to someone else ) ..
Up at 0500 to do the before 9 round, back to the depot and start all over again !!
All this on a CX 500.. My average every week the entire time I did the job was 2,150 miles per..

Now THAT is dispatching !

LOL !!

Para 1: Well done, agreed and thanks.

Para 2: Agreed and thanks.

Para 3: Glad to hear it and I always will.

Para 4: Please don't take it personally. It's just my opinion on what I observe around March time. I'm sure you're a mighty fine biker.

A typical day for me was

Get up before I went to bed

Ride 300 miles to work to pick up job then be 2,000 miles from home at 2pm.. you get a call that sends you even further away..

Do the job, back home by 8.. wash and polish the bike ( yes EVERY hour else in the morning the guvnor would beat you with a rotton haddock nail your feet to the floor and then turn you away and give the work to someone else ) ..
Up before you went to bed to do the before 9 round, back to the depot and start all over again !!
All this on a Raliegh Wisp.. My average every day the entire time I did the job was 220,150 miles per day

Now THAT is dispatching
