"Safety" Road Signs

There has to be a comedy show somewhere in all of this.....

Cheshire CC has now moved on from putting up road signs in polish to "assisting" road safety ..............

They have now positioned a largish sign reading "high collision risk" sign where I live (not literally of course, on a road in the town!!).....

And they have indeed chosen a point where the risk of a collision might well be considered to be higher than say just driving along a straight road.

They've put it just before you enter a busy two lane roundabout from a dual carriageway............ at the point where you'd expect (hope?) most folks would actually be braking and looking off for traffic on the roundabout.

It just seems plain daft to me.... why distract folks at a crucial point in approaching a hazard .............. doh!!!

I can't help thinking it will be a "self proving" forecast....

just like where "safety cameras" ? are placed in accident spots! right, so everyone looks down at their speedo instead of watching the road ahead. 2seconds minimum lost in attention.

And another bit of hardware to wrap a bike and/or body around!
:wank: until they start making then from bendy stuff.

Bendy ones would get bent. I prefer those signs that light up your detected speed. Saves looking down.

There are quiet a few things with road signs that get right up my nose.

The overhead gantry "Slow down, spray"
If it wasnt for that I'd happily plough on regardless, numpties Ive got two eyes FFS I can see if there is spray!!!

Britania bridge sign "High winds on bridge".
Well being as its feckin windy today Im not surprised its bloody windy on the bridge. What it doesnt say is from which direction the wind is blowing! Why not take a leaf out of the French system and put up a small wind sock, I can then see if its windy and from which direction Im likely to be ruddy well blown!!

The one that does make me fume is at the roundabouts on the A55. There are two standard triangular roundabout signs, six marker boards counting down the distance to the roundabout, a HUGE motorway size direction sign showing the roundabout, a smallish white local direction sign, black and white chevron signs on that great green lump in the middle of the road and the twats have painted thick yellow lines which means that if you dare to apply the front brake on the bike it shakes your fillings out.
I thought the bastids had seen sense a few weeks ago when the whole lot was dug up (including the roundabout). The road surface was replaced with that quiet style of tarmac to reduce noise. Guess what the twats have now repainted the yellow lines even thicker so its even noisier!!!

I'm a great lover of the new Motorway 'driver information' systems.

Having sat for an hour stationary on the M6 looking at a sign saying "13 miles to junction X travelling time 12 minutes" I was skeptical of their use ................. then a month or so ago I went under 2 gantries telling me to check my fuel level, having gone past 2 more junctions the motorway was blocked by an accident with an enormous queue building. A long detour then followed. Ah I realised, that is why I needed to make sure I had plenty of fuel ................. stuipd feckers could have said M'Way blocked afer JunctionY and I could have saved myself a great deal of grief but that of course would have been asking too much!

Have you noticed how when on the M6 southbound approaching the toll road ...

If the M6 is busy you'll get a sign saying "M6 congested"

If not you get "Toll Road Clear" ....

Are they aftraid that if they say M6 NOT Congested that folks might not use the toll road ...... wonder who puts the wording up??

They have the same approaching a roundabout near Eastbourne, as you say, bad enough in the dry, wait 'til it's been raining - brake, skid, brake, skid.
If you lucky, you might stop before entering the roundabout.

good looking AND modest
or the way the Muppet's responsible for putting the obvious signs up "fog slow down" etc and then leave them on all day, 3pm bright sunshine there they were, "fog" :wank: and it's a regular occurrence on the M62, M18, M180, A180!! :bang: how about putting "the fog dissipated hours ago turn you fucking fog lights off"!! :dunno:

THese overhead gantries really piss me off, not only on the motorways but also on main trunk roads in Central Scotlend,

Very, very occasionally they will advise you of roadworks/ accident ahead but more often than not its "In town, slow down", "Dont drink & Drive"
or even "Speed Kills"

Fekin things should be turned off until there is a reasonable and neccessary message to be displayed

Just wait for the "sponsored by ..." messages like they seem to be sprinkling over roundabouts now!

Having spoken to some Highways Agency engineers, they confirmed my suspicions that the 'Driver Information Systems' do have some other 'advantages', namely that the trunk road system is now 'powered up' which of course will make the introduction of tolls much easier in the future.

If the full cost of powering up the network nationwide was put against road pricing then the sums would not be justifyable.

Gwnedd Council have also done a similar thing on the first exit from the A55 just after crossing the Brittania Bridge heading towards Bangor. Thick yellow lines on a 70mph around on a left hand bend down to the roundabout!!!!
