Yes, but when positive opinions are expressed by one?s peers (rather than negatives expressed by those distanced by a lack of knowledge or expertise), the positive opinions tend to be more valid and reliable?(e.g., Giacomo Agostini vs. ?Joe Bloggs?) :-:

but if every professional rider was asked to name the greatest ever, they wouldn't all give the same answer.

Well?er?he is a ?better-than-average? footballer?as any pub-team player will tell you? :p

My mistake I meant average professional footballer

But most Formula One drivers believe that Michael Schumacher is an exceptional racing driver to the extent that he may be considered as second only to Senna (F1 drivers vs. "Joe Bloggs"..) :-:

Much as I dislike schumacher I have to agree that he is an exceptional driver

Amazingly, Rossi has now won two World Championships on machinery that, only two years ago, was deemed to be inferior to the Honda V5? :neenaw:

I can't argue that Rossi is the best around at the moment, but to say that he is the greatest ever is an over statement, in 10 years time or so Rossi will be all but forgotten by many people.

...Really...we won't know who is "The Greatest of All Time" until the end of time...Will we...? :dunno: :beer:

Even then we probably won't get to find out.

MMMMmmmmmm.
Can't quite see this one me old mate.
Taking equal amounts of rides up to the French GP, on the 23 Honda rides Rossi had 12 wins and on his first 23 Yamaha rides he won 15, which gives me reason to believe that either
a. all the other GP riders have been going slower so Rossi could win more GPs (if he was on an inferior bike) or
b. it was Burgess' move to Yamaha along with Rossi which has made all the difference.
I reckon the bike was all there it just wasn't set up right.

No, not necessarily every professional rider?But it?s a well-publicised matter of consensus amongst professional riders/racers (past and present, whether on two or four wheels) who openly admit (consciously or subconsciously) that Rossi is ?an exceptional talent?

Well?er?he (Beckham) is a ?better-than-average? footballer?as any pub-team player will tell you?

Of course?That?s why we?ve all forgotten Surtees, Hailwood, Agostini, Read, Sheene, Roberts, Schwantz, Doohan ? ?and Valentino WHO??!?!?

?Will we care??

?Or will we still be able simply to appreciate the times through which we have been privileged to live??

He is exceptional, but not the greatest ever.

I have played in a few teams, and you will be surprised how many disagree with your statement, Beckham can cross a ball and he can take free kicks but on one to one he loses more than he wins

Of course?That?s why we?ve all forgotten Surtees, Hailwood, Agostini, Read, Sheene, Roberts, Schwantz, Doohan ? ?and Valentino WHO??!?!?

Exactly we remember them but can you remember at the time how Sheene was the Greatest ever, or how Hailwood was the greatest ever etc, we may not forget the person but we are quick to put them further down the talent queue.

As I wrote?

...Really...we won't know who is "The Greatest of All Time" until the end of time...

At the end of the day it doesn't matter who is the greatest, just as long as we have people of exceptional talent, that we can talk about and tell our grand kids about.

...If Rossi's not the best (So far...) ...Who is...? :dunno: :rolleyes: :-:

I wonder, if Sheene had been riding in this era could he be the greatest ever rider, or if Rossi had been riding in Sheene's era would he have been as good, we'll never know so it's just down to debate and opinions.

Who knows there may be some untapped talent ready to knock Rossi off his pedestal, I think Rossi would relish the challenge.

...Couldn't agree more...!! :yo:

...I think we'd all relish the kind of consistent challenge that Gibernau brought to Rossi's door in 2003 and 2004... :lick:

Who will it be next season?

...Melandri...? Gibernau, on a Ducati? (could be...!)... Pedrosa...(nah!)

At any rate, fans of MotoGP have another great year of racing to look forward to...'N' this season ain't even over, yet!! :}

GP Next Champion

This is interesting, this is :lick:
I think most people assume the next champion will come from the 250s, but if my memory serves me correctly riders like Lawson, Rainey, Schwantz or Doohan never won championships on 250s.
One of Rossi's strongest points is to be consitent and that alone would win him championships. There will always be a handfull or riders that will win an odd GP or two but never any more than that.
Pedrosa has natural talent but the flaw is his weight which is the same problem as the much loved Kato-son had.
It would not surprise me if an outsider came and stole the show, someone who has never won a championship before but takes to GPS very quickly.
A Chris Vermulen type of rider and of course one who leads a charmed life like Rossi has done.
So I think 2006 will be the same as before with Rossi winnning at least 12 of next years GPs.
2007 will be the start of a new era, Rossi will have retired from GPS the new 800cc limit will apply and the main thing is ....Burgess, who will he take under his wing?
The future of GP racing after 2007 should be well worth watching, to me it's a bit boring at this moment in time with Rossi winning 12 of the 16 races, thank the lord I don't have to pay a TV license or I'd be even more miffed than I am :}

Not at all, it depends in what context you consider someone to be talking shite, if a University lecturer was to give a talk on microbiology to a group of Plumbers the chances are they wouldn't find the subject interesting and say he is talking shite. likewise if you think that I am talking shite then perhaps intellectually you are just not up to the challenge of dealing with a superior mind, I wouldn't worry about it though as we all have our own levels, it is just a matter of finding that level and accepting it.
good luck in your search.

In my opinion Rossi is the best rider EVER, he makes the bike dance and he makes overtakes happen where everyone else would not think possible. He is simply awesome and if you sit down and think of how a bike handles and how he makes it do unbelievable things you can't help but admire the blokes outstanding ability.

I just wish he worked at my local Pizza Hut, that way I would only have only waited 5 minutes for my pizza to be delivered tonight instead of 1 hr 10mins. I also wouldn't mind him roaring off down my driveway on the back wheel instead of the crap young rider who turned up and looked like he was going to bounce of my house and car as he rode away.

As for Rossi being Gay? well I doubt it but I think it is fair to say, he prefers people coming behind him :}

Hi Foster.
I just wish he worked at my local Pizza Hut,

Well there are 2 problems with Rossi working for Piza Hut.
First the wages.... I cannot see PH paying him the 8 million pounds in wages and secondly after a short while he would jump ship and work for Tele Piza. :}

...Another "Know-it-All"...

...But this time it's somebody who's really "in the know"... :bow:

Former five times 500cc World Champion Mick Doohan believes that current MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi, who recently matched Doohan's premier-class title achievements, will now go on to become the greatest ever.

"(Rossi's) got 10 years ahead of him ? he'll not only surpass my achievements but anyone else's as well," Doohan told AAP. "Results-wise he's already equalled everything I've done and he'll have surpassed that by the end of the year...."

But Doohan doesn't agree with those that say Rossi's awesome domination, first with Honda and now Yamaha, is bad for the sport. "You're watching the best of an era - if you want to watch second-rate people, go watch something else," Doohan said.
