Hi and welcome

If the bike has done more than 25000 miles chances are the skock is shot and would more than benefit from a rebuild..
I am still doing custom shock builds for folk, so drop me a line and I will send you all the info
I am away from tomorrow morning until Monday so do not panic if I do not reply till then :) ( john@jaws-motorcycles.co.uk )

I can recommend JAWs exchange units - relatively cheap and work, well.

You might also want to think about changing the front springs while you are at it - the uprated items make a discernible difference to the front end - hard to,describe, the best word I have is 'plusher'.

Been there, and had one

I second that, done the front springs about 600 miles ago and 'plusher' is a good word for it,
will be getting the rear shock done by Jaws as soon as.

The shocker will have to wait for a rebuild but done its job for my trip to the Isle of Man TT. Unfortunately the mot was done and failed on head bearing which is not to bad to do but the numpty who owned the bike before me has used the imperial allen keys to kindly round off the fittings.
Need info on getting rid of duel braking system any down sides and can you buy a complete of hoses. or has any one got agood set of front hoses and would just keep the system .

JAWS Motorcycles sells delinking kits - the place for all things Bird. http://www.jaws-motorcycles.com/

I have done many, many miles on both linked and delinked Birds.

Personal opinion - I wouldn't bother delinking unless your first name is Valentino. In the real world there is bugger all difference, the rear brake is pretty poor in any event. If anything I preferred the linked set up.

I delinked the brakes on mine & much preferred it but don't expect modern 4 or 6 pot stopping power out of the fronts if you do it, on the rear yes the brake is utter crap unless you change the master cylinder, I cant quite remember but I think the one I put on came from a 1200 bandit & I got an excellent brake

the other thing that delinking the brakes will show up is the utterly crap front suspension new springs & some messing around is needed to get that anything like right imo

I managed to find a second hand delink bracket on ebay & had new hoses made up to suit normal brakes, if you cant find one the only real option is to buy the jaws kit or make the bracket if you have the skills

PS you will be running out of free posts soon so might want to consider becoming a sponsor, it really is worth the £5,50 for all the help & info you will receive (y)
