I aint replied or posted anything on here cos to be honest this has hit me harder than anything in my life..
Like many others I am constantly not believing it and then having to just stop what I am doing to take stock.

Ben always seemed to be so much larger than life he was absolutely indistructable..
He was a pillar of every organisation and group of people he ever associated with..

Ride free mate.. where ever the fuck you are now Ben, keep it real as you did for an awful lot of people around this neck of the woods

My deepest sympathies to his family and many friends.

Still getting to grip with the idea that my ears won't be numbed by Ben's stories... Last time we saw him M and I was about two months ago, when he came to Mac (Lumpy here), where we loaded our trailer with the bike and various things (a comedy of errors it was, and such a laugh (Mac feel free to upload the pix, Sharron took few while pissing herself laughing in the kitchen with Marie I was told. You can also post the one of you two at our engagement party, where everybody thought that you two were such a lovely couple - can't find that pic! I've put this movie poster he did, a true master of his art he was).
We we leaving the country for good and Ben said that he came to make sure that they put us in the boat for good, he had a way to tell you that he loved you that man! And the fecker meant it: he and Mac followed us to the port and waived us goodbye, after a big hug, with the big grin on his face that all his mates knew so well... He loved the idea of coming and stay with us in our barn and go ride in the Pyr?n?es. That was the last time we saw him, and that goodbye was a farewell.
Ben you twat you'll be immensely missed, now go take that ride in the Pyr?n?es, I'm just a bit sad that we can't take it together. You take care upthere big boy.

Wasn't going to comment

Wasn't going to comment on here but as others have done, so, now, must I

Remember a few years back when I first got heavily involved with BIRD, Jaws and me had several discussions about what would the contingency plan be if we ever had to report a "fatal" on the forum

We never reached a concensus -probably I supect because neither of us really thought that we need to put a plan like that into action

Ben was a pain in the arse to me!

He rarely let me get away with anything - either website - bird clothing - graphics design - bashes - admin abuse LOL - even down to my charity trip.....

Every time I tried to do something he's be there - fooking sniping away in the background.

Off forum I once said to him "Why the fook don't you get off my case?"

His response ? "Cos I want to make sure you do it properly"

Even down to the off road training and advice he gave by phone and email - some of that kept me safe in Africa

So ya lanky twat - thank you for all that

I'm going to miss you - ride safe wherever you are :)

Not only was Ben one of my best mates, but I also have the honour of being Godfather to his youngest Amy.
Petrea and I are still numb and simply can't believe that this has happenned.
Seeing Sue and the kids earlier this week was just heartbreaking.
My heart also goes out to our mate Paddy who was with Ben when he passed away; he tried everything.
We will never forget him and the laughs we shared.
His work is everywhere in our house and at work in my office, but it's the memories I will cherrish and there are so many.
My only regret is that we didn't see much of each other over the last few months but it didn't matter; he'd pop in for a cuppa on the way home and we'd just pick up from where we left off.
Quite simpy the most genuine person I've ever known. A true mate and a loving father.
Life without Ben will simply not be the same.

Ride Fee my friend, may the sun warm your back

Hi all,
Where do I start....... it's so difficult to string more than a few words together at the mo, let alone type so forgive me if it's brief.
Ben, I'll never forgive myself for failing you at the end. I honestly tried & tried my friend. We had twenty great years of friendship and in all those years not a harsh word between us, even when I was living in Holland we use to grab as much time as possible to catch up. It breaks my heart to see Sue and the kids and your family/friends suffer but I promise I'll be there for them.
You know I would swap places in a heartbeat, but fate is a strange thing and we must travel on different paths for while. In life I was honoured to be your close friend, and whilst it will always haunt me, I'm so glad I got to hold you and whisper to you in your final moments, I know you did'nt suffer but we must now bear that.
So I won't be toasting an absent friend, just one that's unavailable at the moment.
To Sue,
thankyou for your support over the last few days, you are a true inspiration and the perfect dedication to Ben.

Big fella, keep us a seat, I'll catch up.

Well done Paddy

Took a very brave man to come on here and post what you did - but in some way your words will help others to come to terms

Whilst we've never met - Please remember that fate caused this - it was not your fault

You didn't fail him - you did what you could and no-one could ask for more

Paddy - I hope that you are healing physically, so glad to hear that you finally went to the hospital. There was NO better man to have been in that place at that time than you - Sue knows that, Ben knew that.

Have spent the day today with the Jones girls, Mac (Lumpy) popped in as well which was nice. Children show so much resiliance, amazing.

See you in a couple of weeks - thinking of you............Sam

I don’t know why I’ve done this – it’s just what I saw in your post.

I mean neither harm nor offence. It’s just a stream of thought (brandy-fuelled) that I hope you will understand.

My condolences on the loss of your friend.

Memories? Memories create the time to come. They grow and sustain us, as children grow, and are sustained.

Memories illuminate, create and enable our individual futures as mortal beings.

Created as they are through family, friends and, most important, through our own existence and conduct, those same memories create an immortal future, not only for those whom we love, but also for those who love us.

Be grateful for love. Be thankful that you retain the ability to love. Look to your eventual future which is personal to you, meaningful and unique, but which you may also wish to share with others.

No need to catch up.

You were never left behind.
