Prefered Tyres (Tires - US)

Still kickin' it!
Yeah, Ridemeister,

I'm pushin' 020 rear and 010 front - but the front is still too "soft"!

I'll be fitting Jaw's ride-height spacers during the next week or so - work and social life permitting - so look forward to being bored-to-tears by by lots of endless drivel about the results in the very-near future....

You've earned it, mate!! :}

Cheyrrub :p

This isn't really my "preference" as it's the OEM tire and I haven't replaced it yet, but seeing as I made a post questioning the Dunlop 205s, I thought I'd contribute to this thread...

I had about 6000 km (<4000 miles) on bike before I left on a 6500+ km trip to South Dakota and Wyoming (yeah, we stumbled across the Sturgis Rally). I thought that I'd have to replace the rear during the trip, but, as many here predicted, the tire managed to hold up for the duration of the trip. I now have almost 14000 km the rear tire (it was a long trip) and I'll probably replace it this week (with a 205 only because I'm not replacing the front). Soooo, I'm happy with the mileage that I got out of that tire.

Having said that, though, when it comes time to replace BOTH tires, I will try either the Dunlop 220s, or the Macadam 100x. The reason being is that my front tire started showing noticeable cupping/scalloping as early as 6000 km.

For you guys running the 020s, what kind of mileage are you getting out of the rear? For me, I'm more interested in higher mileage than "stickyness".

Cheers.

hail to Michelin

I just replaced my front Macadam 90X (oem) yesterday. It started degrading so even if it wasn't worn out (fronts rerely do), given the the 18,000 kms (12,000mi) of loyal services, I gave it a rest and slapped on a fresh Macadam 100X. The rear is also at 18,000kms and counting, I should be able to finish the season with it.

I find these to be very reasonably priced, perhaps not the cheapest, but given the outstanding lifespan, well worth the extra few bucks from the battlax.

The grip is fair, they offer a very smooth ride , and are very stable a high speed, 260kmh/160mph and up, even with a pillion.

Then again, I'm much more into supersonic long hauls, than carving thru country roads...but that's just me :D
