Prior to that (about End April/May) we have the BSB at Truxton on Bank Holiday Monday.... How far from there are you? I may be in Andover all of Easter.

Will be at Thruxton - riding up with a group of lunatic Paramedic type people!! No idea of the plan for the day, when we are getting there or where we are likely to be, will let you know. Also, no idea how far I am from Thruxton (geography is not my strong point!) but believe is it less than an hour, or there abouts. :yo:

Last time there was my first rideout on the bird three years ago! Was a lunatic then too - first proper ride on the bird and I took pillion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :neenaw:

Tis only a short time away, I gotta go to Micheldever tyres (think thats how you spell it) tyres for a new rear on the way through... which means a 100 miles of going slower/accelerating less to settle them in. So If i have them fitted on the Saturday I shall have to put some miles on them prior to the run home Monday night.

blimey - you're good! I usually loose all sensible behaviour on new tyres after a max of 50 miles!!!! Cue general tutting and finger wagging!!!! h1d1ng2

The last set of tyres I got 6 months before I needed them, then they get air hardening... Its worth settling them in and 100 miles is not that far.... It removes the mould skin residue....

I would never wag a finger at a girl.......fl4g71 :lick:

ok - the only bit that means anything to me is removes mould skin residue - i'm guessing thats what makes new tyres slippy??? :dunno:

Air hardening and settling them in? Lost me - thought that once fitted you were sorted apart from wearing off the slippery coating (or mould skin residue)??????????!!!!!!!! h1d1ng2 h1d1ng2 fl4g71

and why did you get tyres 6 months before needing them?? did you fit them early or store them???

stored them, when tyres come out of the manu'f mould they need to air harden/suck in moisture etc , bought a set 6 months before I needed them, it just helps them last longer, a bit like running them in only better. The running in bit is to remove the mould skin as you said, but also to get the tyres to a running temperature, without getting them too hot, allow them to cool, get them warm again, cool them etc, this is a way of 'work hardening them' ... no doubt someone will post the technical bits.:lick:

Soz, missed that one.... yup mould skin is slippy as the skin on the tyre contains mould release spray, to help the tyre pop out of the mould, due to the moulding temperatures the mould release is mixed with the tyres surface rubber - hence the skin... Removing skin does not work harden the tyre... running in performs that task. (slow acceleration, braking, reduced top speed 80mph ok, warm tyre, cool, warm tyre, cool for about 100 miles.
Just in case you don't do it... check your tyre pressures every day for the first week... I check my tyre pressures every time I use the bike, as ambient air temperature will effect the tyres pressure.:lick: See Thruxton BSB Post

Oooo, and if you store tyres keep them in the dark, no sun light as it degrades the rubber... hence really old tyres perish.
