New VFR

Still kickin' it!
I think I know what it is that makes my views on the VFR1200 so vitriolic.

I’ve finally come to understand that the VFR1200 isn’t actually a bike: it’s a design programme. What’s worse is that it’s a design programme without focus or context and, for me, that makes it even less worthy than the lowest exercise in positive marketing, or “up-selling”, as we now know it.

Amazingly, I’ve arrived at the conclusion that a motorcycle is useless without a rider; and the only time the VFR looks “good” is when there’s nobody actually sitting on it and that’s what gets to me; irritates me; and alienates me: it’s not “a bike”. It’s an aberration.

I’m not talking aesthetically. Bikes are different things to different riders, so I’m talking in terms of sheer practicality and usefulness in full accordance with the old adage: “If it looks good, it is good.” To illustrate my point, the USAF Raptor offers a pertinent reference point. It looks “good”; “mean”; “potent”; and “fit for purpose”;

... especially when compared with its distant and doomed-to-failure rival, the Northrop-McDonnell Douglas YF-23A Black Widow II.

With its negligible range, and, consequently, dubious touring capabilities, the ugly-when-laden VFR1200 falls far, far short of the expectations of those who are expected (in vain, I believe) to purchase it. For me, Honda’s latest attempt to salvage a waning reputation goes beyond grasping at straws. It goes beyond hope. Quite simply; it is the epitome of arrogance and possibly the
swan-song of a once great and ground-breaking company.

While it might be fair to say that Honda may never lose its sense of innovation, it might also be nearer the truth to state that, even as an innovator, Honda may never regain its sense of direction.

R.I.P. Honda.

WTF, has Honda gone totally mad, still I guess they've got to find as many places as possible to stick the V4 lump. It'll soon be buy a Honda buy a V4, the only option available.

It sure looks like my next bike will not be a Honda. :bang:

...and that's IT - in a nutshell.

The available alternatives may not be any better than the VFR - but they're certainly no worse. Insufficiently superior to its competitors to warrant an acquisitive expenditure nearing, or exceeding, ?12,000, the original concept of the VFR1200 might be right (though I doubt it); but in terms of performance; visual impact; desirability and economic viability as a "sports touring" motorcycle...?

...NO :t

New VD Mag

New VisorDown Mag popped through letter box this morning.... February Edition FFS delivered early December!!

Front Cover promises a Spanish 300km Road Thrash on new Honda VFR1200F

Won't bore you with the details as it's bike-related so of little interest to most on here bl4hbl4h, however, summary states ......

"There's no doubt that the new VFR1200 is a blindlingly good machine. It's almost sportsbike fast, immensely stable and with top class build quality. ...it's a package that simply works" Tim Skilton VD Mag

Interesting complaint about the saddle quality though............

I'll rest my case until I have enjoyed the test ride in the spring

3 of the Ducatis are for 1200 / 1150 GS Beemer customers

1 GTR14 customer will replace his Barge.

2 of the others are on VFR / Pan Euro's

Honda do seem to have shot em selves in the foot with this one. Talk among the trade is that there are very few with deposits on em. A lot of folk seem to want to see it in the flesh.

Anyrode, when do you want me to quote for that new 'Busa you was on about

Ap⋅pall⋅ing [uh-paw-ling] –adjective causing dismay or horror: an appalling accident; an appalling lack of manners.
–verb (used with object) to fill or overcome with horror, consternation, or fear; dismay:

He was appalled by the styling of the VFR1200.

I am appalled by Honda’s misjudgements.

Frightful
: appalling visual impact; appalling interpretation of “beauty”; appalling LOOKS... p0pc0rn41

Now Honda is asking if you’d like to “Add a little VFR to your website”.

Even with all the hype, the VFR launch seems to have become a sort of “never was” event.

Who, apart from Honda dealers, would want to advertise such a nonentity? :dunno:

So! It’s only just faster than a ten year-old bike...

vfr2.jpg

...but it won’t go as far… ..so what's the point? :dunno:

vfr3.jpg

…even though it will cost more, it’s nowhere near as good as the alternatives on offer….

... Reportedly, it’s not as comfortable as any of them, and, by the way...…

… it’s fookin UGLY. p0pc0rn41

No - not quite: there's no mention of two-up touring.

100 miles solo equates to - what - if you're two-up? :dunno:

And then, there's luggage, of course... p0pc0rn41

Seventy miles at seventy miles per hour, two-up with luggage - and no funny stuff!!! :t

May as well go in the freakin car!!

Its got failure written all over it but we wont really know until next season ( 2011 ) as there will be buyers simply because its the new Thing but the honeymoon wont last . Sure , it has a place , but if i wanted something along those lines i would get a CB1000 and end up with a better bike for a lot less money
