Hi all
just got myself a bargain 2007 blackbird at 70k miles and I love it !

just got fresh pilot road 4's fitted and fresh mot, the only issue I have left is a knock from the water pump/ front sprocket cover the same as this clip

anyone heard these sounds before on this bike? it only does it when the bike is hot and thermostat opened etc
thanks all !

Wouldn't know enough but did you try to listen using long screwdriver as a stethoscope- preferably wooden handle to locate noise.
Noise a bit deep for a water pump!!

Good to see the mileage didn't put you off. Barely run in.

Water pump problems unheard off on a Bird.

Does the noise go when you pull the clutch in? Bird clutches are noisy - it is hard to tell from the video if it is making the 'normal' noise.

Can't tell from the video if the bike is in gear or not - if it is it sounds like the chain or sprockets to me - an overnight chain.I would check the chain for tight spots, correct tension and general wear. Sprockets as well. Unless you know how long they have been on there might be prudent to change. I used to get about 30k out of a set, but only a as liberally oiled via Scotoiler. Whip the small cover off and make sure the front sprocket is fitted properly

All goes to show that a car is better in every way.

Oh, welcome by the way!

Another thought - it might be coming from the generator - there is a small metal bracket inside the generator cover to hold the cables in place that barely has any clearance. If there is interference you should be able to see it if you whip off the generator cover.

The odds are the generator will have been replaced at least once and maybe it wasn't done right.. if you take the cover off be aware that you may need a new gasket - if it is the original you definetely will as it will break up, if the cover has been off before it will probably be ok to reuse.

I am probably not a million miles away if you want a second pair of ears on it.....although there is someone on this site who knows one end of a spanner from another who is based in Hampshire.....

Thanks so much for the advice all !
The bike only does it when hot and it doesnt affect if clutch is in or out
It doesnt seem to affect the bikes performance just wana see if i can get the bike perfect ill pull the front sprocket cover off and have a look when hot as you can feel it the most through there

Is it also possible that a cct could send the noise through the engine making that part vibrate the most?

Thanks again all !
Just got hold of some micron cans too so that should drown it out a bit haha

Cct sounds unlikely but I suppose is possible. When they go they normally sound like a bucket of nails from about 3k up.

thanks so much for the responses, I've now realised that Jaws must be the Chap I have spoken to on the phone after contacting JAWS for some advice, (very very helpful I must say ! ) taken me a while to realise this
fingers crossed its nothing major. I plan on getting the bird up to 100k miles

Yeah. What did he say?

As an aside, you have probably already had good value out of the site - £5.50 to sponsor (about a gallon of unleaded) will pay dividends going forward. Especially when your charging circuit packs up. Which it will.

Without sponsorship you only get ten 'free' posts.

You know it makes sense.

Better option is to get a car though. Much, much better in every way.

sponsor done :D he very Kindly offered to take a listen to the bike as its currently located near ely not too far away, since then I found that clip online which is exactly the same as my bike hence posting to see if any others have had this issue, or wether its just a quirk of the bird or wether its imminently going to fail on me, fingers crossed not the latter haha

noobie

Clueless in most things
He's not far from you at all but don't leave it long, he drinks some dodgy spanish drink in the summer months and leaves these shores, I believe Spain has now been rebranded as 80-130 holidays

Dark Angel

Still kickin' it!
You sure this is “bottom end” noise?

Sounds a bit like cam follower (if they still exist)
or gudgeon pin (top end/small end ) noise to me.

Verify the source of the sound, if you can.

Nice post, by the way!
