If it's a black un there are no must haves as the bike is superb, hard luggage get a Givi e45 mine beat up all the other boxes so it's well ard. I can vouch for the viper seat as the one I got off Gypsy is superb really comfy although it ain't a gel one.
welcome to the site mate, avoid Lumpy as he has a very strong handshake [practices by himself all the time]
all the best

w;;v I bought a new Blackbird the middle of last year with the intention of doing some touring. The wife didn't like the stock seat so that was quickly swapped for a Melboy seat. Not cheap in my opinion but good quality and very comfortable.

I had a CBR1000 fitted with a Givi Wingrack system (topbox + panniers) before the Blackbird which I reused on the Blackbird. I have found the Givi gear to be fine on the Blackbird. I know people who are care a lot about how cool their Blackbird looks are not keen to fit Givi but it does the job for me and I feel confident my luggage is still going to be there when I arrive.

We toured Scotland two-up last August/September and had no problems. The Blackbird is great :yo: for touring as far as we're concerned. (Although my wrists took a while to adjust.) With the Melboy, the wife thinks it's the most comfortable tourer we have had. Write-up and pictures on http://www.bikersoracle.com/blackbird/forum/showthread.php?t=22663

A tank full of fuel and ride the wheels off it.

You'll love it. I really enjoyed the one i owned, covered 24k on it and NO faults at all, superb machine.

Hard Luggage

I recommend Givi E-460 with the backrest and brake lite as well as two E-360's. All in all it's a pricy piece of "kit" as the Brits say, but after 85,000 kms of riding mostly touring, I find them excellent! Although they are expensive I also recommend a Corbin Gunfighter Lady, heated, for excellent comfort for you and your pillon. I suspect there are other seats available on your side of the pond equally as good. Get one that is heated. P.S. Get the three "removeable lnner liners" ie removable luggage for the hard luggage. $120.00 Canadian. You won't have to take your luggage off when you travel. There is one "old git" b0x2 on this site who suggests Corbin is "shite" but I wonder if he even rides a Bird or has owned a Corbin. d04l1ng The brake lite is affordable and an excellent safety feature. I'm not a "crazy" rider but I've had my Bird over 200kph plus many times with no stability problems. My wife is very comfortable on the seat and feels safe holding the side luggage and leaning back when necessary. There are many pics of Givi on this site. Cheers

And if you do want to leave the bike looking like an iron mongers when the box's are off Get the Motech system instead of the huge Wingrack thing that is out of the ark ! :p !

Believe it or not the bird pictured below is kitted out to take a pair of Givi or kappa or various other box's..

The little tiny brackets are all that is left on the bike when the box's are lifted off !

There is also a fitting for a top box so you can have the full compliment of luggage should you want it.
