The MotoGP riders had to face tricky conditions on Friday afternoon as the rain hit the Sepang circuit before the beginning on the second free practice session. After starting on a damp track, the riders saw the track drying throughout the session, but not enough to allow them to beat the fastest time set on a dry in the morning by Sete Gibernau.
Suzuki's Kenny Roberts Jr was the fastest in the second session having clocked his best lap in 2'15.954. Brazilian veteran Alex Barros was second fastest ahead of Shinya Nakano and Loris Capirossi, while Colin Edwards took fifth and was followed by Olivier Jacque and John Hopkins.
Toni Elias was eighth fastest ahead of Valentino Rossi, who suffered an off-track excursion at the end of the session. Marco Melandri, who is still suffering from a foot injury, completed the top 10.
