Hi, I do mine through the Co-op (CIS genreal Insurance on the net or phone 08457 46464 - or contact a local CIS Financial Advisor as there FA's do general insurance as well), The questions you have to ask is, whats the price - obvious. whats the excess this varies greatly and you can increase or decrease accordingly (a guide is ?10 to ?20 per annum per ?100 reduction on excess). fully comp or 3rd party, third party only if you just want to insure the bike while its in the garage/not riding. Can NCD be protected once you get to full NCD. Are legal aid/costs included, is a passenger covered - if you have one. Are you dealing with a broker who will work for you. Some offer 'limited breakdown' I go for AA seperate (Via Lloyds TSB as you get discount via their select customer crap - cost ?48 for full upgrade) as it includes car and roadside recovery. Bennets offer a std puncture assistance - or did , dont know if its still an offer they make. CIS offer breakdown with european cover for ?54 year (less than ?2 week).
Previous ins with bennets was ?500 with ?600 excess on a VTR thou (did'nt tell me what excess was until quote arrived in the post - tossers) Did it through co-op/CIS for ?420 and ?100 excess only snag is they do not offer NCD once you get to full NCD, so if you drop it or claim and its your fault you loose all you NCD that you have built up... so I'll be looking around again once I get to full NCD - and on renewal as a matter of course.
My stats for comparison are 3 years NCD (not my fault but I keep changing my bike/ins.co otherwise I would have 5 years NCD, I'm aged 49, on a bird, with a value of about ?4500.
Bennets are worth a try, try a local insurance broker. But check what liabilities you are covered for.... Hope thats of help
