Haven't seen any of this for a while but one of the Satellite channels covered one of the American Series for a while and the speed and cornering is staggering to watch on the tv.

It's called Sprint Boat Racing and started off in N Zealand and later spread to Australia before the yanks took it up.

In the US the regular class boats run Chevy V8's at about 475 bhp. Then there is the Super class which run 500 cubic inch aluminium blown motors at 700 - 1000 bhp!! These accelerate from a standstill to 80mph in under 3 secs!! Pilots and nav's have to be super fit as acceleration and cornering forces in this class can reach 7 G's. Navigation is just done with frantic hand signals as the corners come up so quick (pic below - note the head supports!).

Jet drive system used, flush fitting underboat intake with inboard impeller of 8" - 8.5" dia blades (up to approx 1000 bhp), directional exit nozzle for super responsive steering. They must shift some water!!

Here's another pic below - This one is 1400 BHP!! (unfortunate name for the boat though!).

I was watchin some of these from NZ, on motors tv the other week. Fookin insane. Got to have reactions like lightning :bow:

So basically they are jet bikes but with a boat hull ! Fookin brill !! Loadsa fun and Quite possibly a home construction type jobby for a reasonable cost..
I mean, find a smashed Jet bike, nail the lump and ram into a little row boat .. Cool as a cool thing in the fridge ! !
