In the rain

As we all know most things on the road surface become slippery when wet - drain covers, over banding, the road itself etc, etc BUT have you also considered that the paint itself can be slippery so try to avoid riding on it unless you are upright and travelling in a straight line and even then you may loose traction.

How about riding between the letters painted on the road.

You think the white lines are slippery in the UK. You want to try them in France. They use extra glass in the paint to make it more reflective, which makes them a hell of a lot more slippery in the rain. Also avoid the white lines on zebra crossings in the rain.

And do remember this very little known fact: The specification for tarmac used on our motorway network is NOT the same as for other roadsQUOTE]

From what I've seen m8 its not just the motrways that are lacking in grippy tarmac

refering to the "white" lines,+ other colours this is infact a thermoplastic mix, to which plastic/polysummat beads are added to increase the "reflectivity" of the lines, and as we all know just how slippery wet plastic can be, this is exactly what you would be riding on if you rode over road lines, :dunno:

That's not the spec Skip, it's the fact that the council's don't have the money to replace worn-out roads 'cos they're paying out so much compensation because of the poor state of the roads  .... errrr.... Let's run that by one more time :bang:

The worrying part is mate is I think there may be more than a little tuth in that.

Even more fun when you forget to tell your other half to avoid the zebra crossings on the corners (by the way, I'm not linking getting the bitch sideways with Jane in any way whatsoever :k )- which they had a hell of a lot of on the coast road south of La Rochelle. Watching the back of her bike slide around in the mirrors was great fun :} :} . After about 10 miles or so I thought I'd better warn her to keep clear of the solid white bits when it's raining.
